Before you try anything adventurous with your new four-wheeler, take sometime to get trained on how to use it. An ATV is a different kind of vehicle from a car or a truck and you need to have some exposure to how the machine handles especially in an off road situation. Also, take the time to take the ATV into "tame" off road situations and get to know it well. Better to have a problem with your four-wheeler a half mile from your home in a field where help can reach you than to get stranded in some dangerous, remote location.

The four-wheeler should also be built to operate at a much reduced power and challenge level. This means the child's ATV or even the teenagers version of the four-wheeler will not be so powerful that they youngster could lose control of the vehicle easily leading to a nasty accident. But the most important thing your child needs when he or she is learning to operate an ATV is teaching. Under no conditions should he or she take that ATV into unknown territory or difficult terrain. Driving around a vacant lot in the neighborhood is plenty. Then as you teach your child how to operate that machine, you can slowly increase the challenge as the common sense of how to drive a four-wheeler responsibly begins to become evident in the way your son or daughter drives their very own ATV.

Getting a four-wheeler for your teenager takes more than just putting out the chunk of cash it takes to buy it. When you put a big bow on that ATV to have it under the Christmas tree or to give to him or her for a birthday gift, there is a lot of preparation you must do for this moment and plenty of parenting work to be done before you cut that youngster loose with such a powerful machine.

Of course, everything about the ATV is built for this kind of demand. The shocks, the undercarriage, the brakes, the axils and every other component of that four-wheeler is designed to be able to handle any conceivable terrain without difficulty. You will think about that engineering when the ride gets rough as you take that ATV into some really rough and unsettled terrain. You want that four-wheeler to take that ground like an invading tank and those tires should be tough as tank treads to live up to that expectation.

Also, be aware of the fit of the four-wheeler to your youngster's size. To operate an ATV, the youth should be able to easily manage the steering and other controls and to access the readings that they need to drive their ATV responsibly. This may call for getting some measurements before you give the vehicle to your youth. Top 10 Items to Take On a Cruise With a Baby

Our recent Caribbean cruise on Crown Princess ship with our 10 month old daughter was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we are starting to plan for another cruise in about a year.

Planning for your trip is essential. There are so many things to consder and travel with a baby means that you need to pack more than you would without a baby. Here are the things that we thing you absolutely have to have when going on a cruise with a young baby.

1. Probably the most important thing for the cruise is taking a comfortable stroller that is foldable. Having a stroller makes it easy to get around on the ship and in the airport when travelling to the cruise. We used the stroller for morning walks on the ship, for taking our daughter to meals on the ship, and in the evening we bathed her, put her in pyjamas and then put her in the stroller as we enjoyed the excitement of walking around the ship in the evening. She fell asleep every evening in her stroller.

2. You cannot be without diapers. You can calculate how many diapers you will need on the trip by keeping track for a week or so before your trip of how many diapers your child uses in a typical day. Then simply multiply that number by the number of days in your vavcation. You also might want to consider waiting to buy the diapers in the city that you board your ship. That way you won't have to worry about checking them as luggage on your air flight (if your trip includes air travel). Our ship left from Ft Lauderdale Florida, and we had time between our flight arrival and the time to board the ship. We took a cab from the airport to a Kmart store and purchased the diapers and some other baby supplies before getting another taxi to the ship.

3. Even when travelling with a young baby you will want to swim during your vacation (if your cruise is a warm-weather location). All ships have kiddie/toddler pool and in order for you baby to enjoy the pool they have to wear swim diapers or be potty-trained.

4. If your baby is on formula make sure that you bring enough formula with you for the length of the cruise. We brought powdered formula since it is more compact than pre-mixed formula. Rather than bring it from home, we purchased the required formula in Florida before embarking our ship. Keep in mind that any formula entering the ship must be sealed & in the original container.

5. Being able to boil water during the trip was important to us since we wanted to have safe water to mix with the powdered formula. In order to make it easy to boil water we brought a kettle with us with an automatic shut-off.

6. Formula dispenser - having a powder formula dispenser means that you can fill the bottles with clean water and when baby is ready to eat, you can just pour the pre-measured formula into the water and shake the bottle.

7. When you check into your room on the ship let your room steward know that you will have some smelly diapers - he will come to your room more often to remove them. You can also help to control odours in your cabin by bringing with you scented bags for putting the dirty diapers (they can be purchased at a dollar store or Babies r Us). The bags were also useful on our air flight.

8. Bring baby soap for your child's bath. Our cabin did not have a bathtub and most cruise cabins won't have one. What you can do is plug the drain on the shower and put enough water in the shower in order to give your baby their bath.

9. If you plan on spending much time in the sun with your child during the cruise you may want to purchase before your trip and bring with you a lightweight sun cabana before your trip. We used ours on two beaches and on the pool deck near the kiddies pool. It kept us and our baby comfortable and protected from the sun. To rent a cabana on the private island that our ship stopped would have cost us about $80. The cabana that we brought with us cost less than $50 and we use it all the time.

10. Zip lock bags - these are great for everything - snack holders, put really dirty/soiled clothes away until you get home. Use for things that leak - (ex. medicine). Use the bags on the ship to pack bibs, spoons to go for dinner so when they are dirty you can throw in the bag & clean when you get back to your room.

Once you've chosen the plants, you'll also need to select a container in which to grow them. Choosing the right container from the beginning can help your plants grow successfully. You can grow many vegetables from seeds, but if they are replanted too often, they will not thrive. Typically, plants grown in vegetable gardens, like tomatoes, can handle one replanting just fine. However, especially once they start to bear fruit, you should leave them alone in their container.

When you're buying a container for your plants, imagine what they will look like when full-grown. Consider the size of the mature plant, and whether you will have enough room to let it grow in the apartment or on your patio unrestricted. For example, a hanging basket can be a great choice to hang outside your apartment, but if it is too small for the plant to grow freely, its growth will be stifled.

There are many varieties of plants that can be grown in small areas. You can have beautiful orchids, or potted plants, or palms like the bamboo palm plant.
