So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Experience The Thrills Of Sewing

By Donna Trumble

Since the beginning of time, the use of needle and thread have been essential for sustaining life itself. Sewing skills empowered people to stay warm and shelter themselves from the weather and animals. While women often did much of the sewing, survival was everyones business.

Sewing skills were passed from parent to child. These were survival skills. Sewing was required for making clothes, tents, and blankets. Shelter, bodily protection, warmth, life, and survival relied on sewing.

During ancient times, plant vines, strips of bark, strips of animal hides, and numerous other natural materials were used as thread. Wood, bone, and early metal needles were used in often crude sewing efforts. Hides of many kinds were used much like we use fabrics today.

Elias Howe and Isaac Singer changed sewing forever. The introduction of the sewing machine transformed the world. Previously, all sewing had been done by hand. The sewing machine accelerated the speed of sewing production while providing a manufacturing tool that could work endless hours.

Sewing machines soon appeared in every textile factory and home. The sewing machine became a necessity. Sewing skills became essential. Economic survival depended on sewing. Clothing construction and household necessities could now be produced at home quicker and better then every before.

Times have changed. Many believe sewing is a fading or perhaps even a lost art. The necessity of the home sewing machine appears to be fading. Most of our clothes are now made in China. Most schools no longer teach sewing. Mothers are so busy working outside the home, sewing skills are not being passed on to the next generation. Sewing is no longer considered an essential life skill.

The winds of change, however, are in the air. The world of sewing is changing. Surprisingly, over 85,000,000 sewing machines are actively being used in America today. Some 5,000,000 brand new sewing machines are sold in the U.S. every year. More people are beginning to sew everyday.

The workhorse sewing machine and the view of sewing have changed. Sewing is no longer the mundane work tool. Instead, users enjoy sewing as a tool of pleasure and relaxation. Sewers are passionate about sewing.

Today, sewing has changed. Now sewing is fun, easy, relaxing, thrilling, creative self expression. Now sewing is easier than ever before. The tools of sewing make sewing more accurate, easier, more productive, and much more satisfying. Modern sewing machines have features that take the work out of sewing. The design of sewing machines takes advantage of the most advanced computer technologies available. Machines have hundreds and hundred of dynamic stitches, built in alphabets, needle up/needle down, easy reverse, start/stop and slide speed control, powerful pulse DC motors, automatic threading, automatic tensions, automatic thread trimmers, even elaborate machine embroidery.

The revival of sewing is amazing. The introduction of new technologies and new sewing machines have been well received. Top of the line sewing machines now cost $9,000 to $12,000 each. Thousands of new sewing and quilting classes and clubs are springing up all over the country. Even school have started classes again.

The Perfect Delivery: Sending Flowers Works Every Time

By Laurie Peters

Each month of the modern calendar year is filled with a plethora of gift-giving opportunities. Some of these are traditional holidays; others are once-in-a-lifetime occurrences. Each has a special significance for the person celebrating, and each is celebrated in a different way. From birthdays and anniversaries to retirements and recognitions, events abound where a gift of flowers is the perfect answer to the age-old question, What can I give to the person who already has it all?

Some of the most likely reasons to send flowers are in response to special holidays and events. Colorful arrangements can brighten most homes and offices for just about any reason. Birthdays, Mothers and Fathers Day, Secretary Day, Nurses Day are but a few of the possibilities reasons for such celebration. Receiving colorful arraignments can lighten the spirits of almost anyone.

Occasions that are appropriate for sending flowers run from birth to death as well as all the ranges of life experiences in between. From the first time a new baby arrives in a family, friends and co-workers and other relatives will likely want to cherish the newborns arrival with special flowers. Equally likely will be the display of this kind of gift from friends, family members and acquaintances at the funeral home when a person known to any of the others has passed away. Birthdays are an obvious celebratory response to knowing someone who is enjoying adding one more year to living.

Certain situations call for different arrangements, though. If you are trying to endow positive vibes on someone who is ill or sick, then daisies, roses, and carnations are what you're after. The rose alone (or by the dozen!) can be counted on to convey the message of love and faithfulness as it has since the conception of the sensation of love. Snapdragons, lilies and mums are used in arrangements targeted towards those grieving a loss, and are said to help them focus on the beauty of life. Blue delphinium, white daisies, and yellow carnations say "It's a boy!", and white carnations, daisies, and pink lilies and roses scream with excitement "It's a girl!".

Flowers do need a bit of attention as they are fragile and may not last too long. They need to have their water refreshed from time to time or else it will start to smell a bit rotten. Some people may have allergies so one needs to be careful about knowing if this present may induce a negative physical reaction. These days, men may appreciate receiving flowers as much as women for similar occasions, but one should be sensitive to those males who might find it a bit embarrassing to receive them publicly.

If sending a large bunch of flowers sounds appealing but does not really meet your specific need, there are many other options available to you as well. For example, if you are not sure what your recipient would like, you can always purchase them a gift certificate so they can select the exact kind of arrangement they would enjoy the most. Also, most companies that specialize in floral arrangements also have gift baskets or other gift items that can be customized to complement a floral gift or replace it altogether. Furthermore, live plants or flowering bushes are often part of the menu, and this gives you the option of purchasing and sending something to your recipient that will last them quite some time.

Overall, sending a floral gift can be as personally rewarding for the sender as it can be for the receiver. A vase full of pretty posies is a luxury we dont often afford ourselves, so when we get some " especially via a surprise delivery " it can be a wonderful occurrence. Ultimately, the sender can be rest assured that, every time their gift recipient looks at the vase or catches a whiff of the blossoms, they will be thought of. And the gesture of having the flowers sent and delivered is one that will linger for quite some time.

Help With Flooring Installation

By Ben Tunk

Hardwood flooring installation can be a difficult and sometimes complicated job, but if you feel comfortable giving it a go personally, you can end up saving quite a considerable amount of money.

Properly installed hardwoods can last for generations, even under wet and humid circumstances, such as in a bathroom. With a little planning and a step by step plan, as well as plenty of time, hardwood flooring installation can be accomplished without exorbitant professional services.

Moisture is the number one enemy of hardwood flooring. Moisture can gradually warp the surface of the wood as it expands and contracts.

This does not mean, however, that hardwood flooring cannot be installed in wetter circumstances.

Hardwood flooring simply requires a little preventive care in order to function well under these conditions.

Installing hardwood with an asphalt felt should provide a guarantee against rotting and warping of the hardwood. Take 15 pound asphalt felt, and put it over the subfloor in overlapping sections. The felt should be tacked down with a staple gun.

Leave a small space, approximately half an inch, between the asphalt felt and the wall.

A baseboard or base shoe will be placed in these smaller spaces between the flooring and the wall.

The initial three boards of the flooring should be laid out by hand. Board lengths are usually random, so portions of the flooring should be placed as a test before nailing down.

When the first boards are placed, the remainder can be set with a flooring nailer. This will make it simpler to do a good job of laying out the flooring.

When the new flooring results in an uneven surface, you can use a reducer to create an even surface.

When preparing to install a hardwood floor, be sure to safely store the wood. Storing the wood outside where it can get damp will lead to uneven flooring that does not fit together.

If the flooring must be stored outdoors, be sure to protect it with a waterproof tarp. This can prevent any moisture from causing permanent damage.

Do not transport wood flooring in an open bed when weather conditions could give rise to rain or high humidity.
