So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

What are the Origins of Noni?

By William Kendricks

Grown in hot, humid tropical climates, usually in black lava soil beds, along sandy, rocky, or lava-ash covered beaches, in the rich soils of shade forests, and in limestone outcrops is where we can find the noni tree. It averages a height of around 30 feet. It is native mostly to the Hawaiian Islands but can also be found in Polynesia, the Dominican Republic, Asia, Tahiti and the Pacific Islands. This plant comes from the Rubiaceae Family, the coffee tree family.

It has been called the starvation or famine fruit because it quite frankly tastes pretty bad on it's own. It has a knobby texture on the outside, very similar to that of a pineapple, and a white skin and is shaped like a gourd or heavy white potato. It has been called the Cheese fruit because it gives off an odor like curing cheese when it is ripening. The fruit itself is quite ugly and really doesn't look like a fruit at all. It has been known by many different names, including the Great Morinda, Indian Mulberry, Mengkudu, Beach Mulberry, Tahitian Noni, and Cheese fruit. Its scientific name is Morinda Citrifolia.

The whole fruit and powder has large levels of dietary fiber and carbohydrates. It also contains many Vitamins, such as Iron, Potassium, Vitamin A, and Calcium. Additionally, the fruit contains fatty acids, polysaccharides, flavanoids, phytoestrogens, and indoids.

Beta-sitosterol is an anti-cholesterol agent. It can be found in abundance in the Noni fruit. Health food stores carry the plant in ground up form for the making of herbal remedies and medicines. The powdered form can also be used to mix in with other foods to derive all the health benefits. Eastern countries use the whole plant, including the bark and roots to make home made medicines that cure and alleviate a variety of illnesses. They use it stop a fever, relieve eye irritations, sooth sore throats, relieve gum irritation and almost any bowel, intestine or stomach problem that may arise. Other countries make poultices from the leaves and put them on the chest for respiratory problems and on broken and sprained limbs for pain.

In Malaysia they use poultices from the leaves to stop coughing, colds, lung ailments, asthma and lumbago. The believe that if made right the poultice will heal almost any ailment.

In Ancient times, tribes carried this fruit with them whenever they went on long voyages or journeys because of its healthful properties. It was given the name of the Queen Fruit because of its attributes. It was also called the 'canoe fruit,' because they carried it in their canoes everywhere they went.

Buying Lobster Online is Easy and Affordable

By Shannon Linnen

When we want to entertain friends and family, we almost always take them someplace away from home. Perhaps we spend a nice day at a fancy spa. Perhaps we take the gang to a restaurant or to a movie. The problem with these plans is that they don't take into account the fact that you'd like to spend time at home, relaxing with your guests, and getting to see them and talk to them. For that, entertaining at home is a great option, but it doesn't mean you have to leave all the luxury out. When I want to impress, I order lobster for my dinner parties.

To many, lobster is seen as the ultimate luxury food. And when you order it in a restaurant, it is, because of its high price. It also happens to be one of the easiest foods to prepare at home, needing only a stock pot and some water for you to cook it to perfection. No matter what size your party is, you can order the number of lobsters you'll need to suit your needs. Need twenty lobsters for a grand gathering? It can be done. Just as easily, you can get two lobsters for an intimate dinner.

The reason that you can have all of these great lobster gatherings is that ordering lobster online is so simple! In the past, it would have been impossible to have a large gathering featuring lobster, without a ton go expense and advanced planning. It's unlikely your grocery store would have enough lobster to begin with, and even then, they were likely old, with claws atrophied with banding. Experts recommend that you eat lobsters fresh, within two days of fishing.

How do you get fresher lobster by ordering lobster online? It's easy really, and it's all about how the product is shipped. When a local store orders lobster, it has to get the lobsters from the coast to the store, usually by trucking. Depending on where your store is located, this can take as long as a week. When you order online, you're getting the lobster fresh from the fisherman themselves. It is packaged as soon as it's caught, and shipped overnight. This means your lobster is as fresh as possible, and that you'll get it when you're ready for it.

When you order lobster online, you're also able to save lots of cash while doing it! A local grocery store has tons of hidden fees, like shipping and labor costs, which they tack on to your order. By ordering online, you pay only the price per pound and the cost of shipping to you, a great savings.

When you're ready to treat yourself and your friends to a night of luxury, lobster is the easy answer. You can order quickly online without having to make arrangements at the store, and your lobster, which will be bought at a nice savings, will arrive right when you need them. So treat yourself to lobster today!

The Truth about the Color of Maine Lobsters

By Sherry Shantel

Think that all lobsters coming from Maine are red? Then time to think again ! The lobsters that come from Maine are actually greenish-brown or black, but they can also be blue, yellow, or even white. About one in every 30 million lobsters is born with a blue shell.

If a lobster's shell has black holes or marks on it; that is the result of wear and tear. They indicate that the older lobster hasn't recently shed its shell. The marks are not harmful.

The color of the shell had no affect on the flavor or texture of the lobster. When it is cooked, all of the color pigments are hidden, except the red one. That's why when your lobster is completely cooked; it will be red in color.

If you cook a lobster longer than needed, the meat will be tough. When you cook it properly, it is creamy white in color. The antennae are removed easily.

Live Main Lobster can be boiled, grilled, steamed, or baked. The white meat of the lobster is located in its tail, knuckles, and claws. Meat is also located in parts of the body and the legs. The red substance in the tail section is the roe, or female eggs and is considered a delicacy. The green matter at the section of the body and tail is known as tomalley, which is the liver, and has a peppery taste, used in many recipes.

Lobster lovers might adore the tomalley, but; it shouldn't be consumed on a regular basis. As with other animals, contaminants may settle in the liver of the lobster, so it is always best to be on the safe side.

Maine lobster is healthy and tastes delicious-if, you go light on the butter. Hard to believe that Maine lobster has less calories, cholesterol, and saturated fats than leanbeef, skinless chicken or pork. Lobster also remains a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which have been proven to reduce risk of heart disease and hardening of the arteries.

Maine lobster will make any occasion a special time for celebrating. Maine lobster is sweet, succulent, and delicious. Remember, looking for fresh Main lobsters? Don't look for something that is red to begin with, look for the lobsters that are greenish-brown orblack to be sure of getting the Maine lobster that you are sure to enjoy!
