So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Diamond Rings: Tips On How To Identify An Imitation

By David Harfield

When you present a loved one with a diamond ring, one thing that you can be sure of is that they are going to bowled over; there is nothing quite like a gift that you can take everywhere and anywhere you go and be sure to be the envy of every passer-by, one that sparkles, shines and glitters in the light.

Nonetheless, there is always the danger that you may get ripped off; in any industry that involves large amounts of money for small, precious items there are always going to be some people in the business looking to take advantage of you. Imagine your loved one's disappointment, (not to mention your own!) at discovering that the glorious gift that you have given them was in fact a fake and not even worth a fraction of what you had shelled out for it.

Fortuitously, there are steps that you can take in order to safeguard against this unfortunate occurrence, which will protect you against the financial and emotional damage that such a scam can incur. Heed this advice to prevent you from being the next victim of a scamming trickster.

The most important piece of advice is the most obvious: find someone who you can trust. Research the jeweller's name on the internet, ask previous customers about their satisfaction, basically do as much background searching that you can before parting with your hard-earned cash.

Any jeweller unwilling to proffer an authenticity certificate for their diamond rings, which is a vital piece of information should be avoided like the plague. You should make contact with the issuing body if you are unsure about the actual authenticity of the certificate.

One should always assess the cut of the diamond; this is much easier if you have some expertise or background in the industry, or know an acquaintance who is able to lend a professional hand, (or eye!), yet without this, you should simply see which cut you like the best and determine which diamond rings sparkle the most, as this can often reflect the best cut.

Be wary of coloured diamonds that the jewellers claim not to have treated; naturally coloured diamonds are extremely expensive because of the fact that they are very rare. You may have discovered a rare bargain, however it is much more likely that the stones have been treated at some point in the manufacturing process.

A good idea is to get it valued by another jeweller straight away, if you have made the decision to purchase your diamond ring; this way you will find out immediately if you have been conned. It is important to make sure you are getting what you pay for, yet don't let all this put you off splashing out on a diamond ring for a loved one, just be as careful as possible.

Kitchen Upgrades That Make A Difference

By Larry Terson

One of the cheapest ways to make a dramatic change in the look of your kitchen is to paint it a different color. However, it is important that you explore all sorts of different color ideas before you jump in and start painting. The kitchen is such a central room in the house that you need to make sure you make the right color choice.

A color that might look good in the living room or den may not turn out to be an appropriate color for the kitchen. Additionally, if you choose to paint it a bright color that really stands out, you want to make sure that you are really going to like it. You don't want to have to paint it a second time just because you used the wrong color the first time.

Another thing you can do to make your kitchen look different is to change the flooring. New houses all seem to be being built with wood floors now as they are very popular but that might not be the right surface for your kitchen. Bigger kitchens might look good with wood but if yours is small it might look better with tile or some other material. The floor color will of course be very important and must match with the walls.

Kitchen floors can be made out of all sorts of materials including tile, wood, stone, laminate, and granite. Hardwood kitchen floors are the most popular because people like the look of the wood and it often can be the same floor as the dining room. Stone and granite floors are more rare and you have to make sure you don't get a surface that will crack or chip. If you want to change the overall appearance of your kitchen, the floors are a great place to start.

Another way to make a kitchen stand out and be different is to change the lighting. Most new kitchens have an island and over them hang down a wide array of fancy lights. Many of these lights look like something you would find in a trendy bar or nightclub. Some kitchens are also using track lighting to highlight different aspects of the kitchen. The lighting you choose for your kitchen can make as much of an impact as the color of paint that you use. In fact, the lighting should be chosen with your kitchen colors in mind so that the two compliment each other.

Sliding Closet Doors in Miami FL: The Best Designs Available

By Chris Saturday

The sliding closet door is one option available when thinking about installing or purchasing closets for a room. If you only have very limited space for a closet, then the sliding closet door will make sure that you can have access to the inside of your closet without having to worry about banging the door on the walls or the foot of your bed.

I would wait for an unsuspecting passerby, then jump out behind them while screaming ! Apparently, I was responsible for the "near heart attack" of many family members. I was so delighted !

Sliding closet doors come in many different types. You have the traditional wooden sliding closet door that gives the whole closet a warm look. Different types of wood or wood laminate with all the different combinations of wood color and grains, will give different effects to a room.

To add a bit more functionality to the doors, you can opt to mount mirrors on them. Now you can really save wall space when mounting mirrors on the sliding closet doors.

Mirrors will also give a small room a good sense of depth. Because of this effect, there are many different sliding closet door options that have its surface completely covered in mirrors to use the depth effect to the maximum.

These style of doors allow for a great deal of creative use. The basement area of our home is a full basement with 8 foot ceilings. Fortunately, it is dry year round and there are eight windows built in to the foundation walls.

However if you happen to be worried that these types of closet doors are either not strong enough or make too much noise then do not worry any more. Today you can purchase a sliding closet door which actually comes with silent rails. But as for the strength of the door? Well, this will all depend on the type of wood used to make them.

If space is limited, then the sliding closet doors is definitely the way to go. But even if you are not constrained by space limitations, the sliding closet doors will offer some nice decorating options that could enhance the overall theme of your room.

Lisbon Art Museum Shows Love from Gulbenkian

By Luke Pantinger

The Gulbenkian, widely considered Lisbon's best art museum, was named for an Armenian entrepreneur who was successful in the oil markets in Turkey, Iran and other places in the Middle East in the early 1900s. He used his fortune to amass an impressive collection of art in a wide variety of styles. Gulbenkian collected art from the Greek Roman and Egyptian empires, the Asian dynasties and the European art movements throughout history.

Lisbon then became Gulbenkian's central focus and the city profited greatly from this relationship, not in the least through the amazing Museu Calouste Gulbenkian. The quality of the works in this museum more than makes up for its smaller size in area.

The Egyptian collection includes a well preserved bowl that is more than 6000 years old and a rather famous golden mummy mask. There are Greek and Roman examples of statues and coins, rivaling the world renowned Getty museum in this area.

The museum then follows the time line toward more modern works from the 18th century, including works like "Views of Venice" by Francesco Guardi and paintings from Canaletto. Rembrandt and Rubens are also well represented, including the rarely acknowledged Pallas Athene by Rembrant and Rubens' Portrait of Helene Fourment. Monet and Renoir complete the awesome French Impressionism collection.

The sculpture "The Diana" by Houden is on display here, next to the fabulous "Blessings" by famed artist Rodin. There are also pieces of furniture so exquisite and rare they are also considered pieces of art. There are many representative pieces of Spanish and Italian ceramics in the Gulbenkian as well.

Textiles are well represented from the 19th century in the Gulbenkian's modern section. One may also find beautiful examples from the exquisite jewelry created during the Art Nouveau period. The also very famous Lalique jewelry and glass that was given to the Gulbenkian by the artist because of his personal friendship with the man for whom it is named is also on display here. The famous and original "Dragonfly" is here to be seen as well.

The museum is also well festooned by beautiful garden filled with beautiful flora and fauna representative of the natural species in the area. The sea air also usually very well scented here, and for a fantastic view of the whole thing, visit the museum's caf balcony. You will be very glad that you did. It is breathtaking.

Because of the love that Gulbenkian felt for Lisbon, the town was the very lucky recipient of a lasting treasure. The enduring gift of this museum is able to encourages many others to visit and appreciate the city that Gulbenkian loved so well.
