Have you been putting off buying a new electronic item such as a Blu Ray player, a high definition LCD television or a HD Plasma TV for the reason that you are waiting until the price comes down a little more? This is understandable since the retail price of electronic goods appear to get cheaper and cheaper every year. Further to this numerous news reports talk of massive price reductions on the high street that only seem to give reason for holding off for longer.
Dont the retail prices of electronic goods just keep getting cheaper?
When LCD TVs and Plasma Tvs were first launched they cost about 10000.00. Every year they got cheaper and cheaper and now you can buy them for a fraction of the price when launched, with a lot higher specification and better picture quality. Unfortunately this trend of continuously falling prices is about to change.
Buy now or pay more later
In the last 12 months the value of the pound against the Dollar, Euro and Yen has weakened by about 30%. So what has this got to do with the price of consumer electronics? Well because a lot of electronic products are produced in Eastern Europe and China the cost of importing them has risen as a consequence of the weakness of the pound. Even electronic products manufactured in the UK will be affected by this since they use components manufactured outside of the UK.
A lot of major brand manufacturers havent passed these price increases on and have absorbed them. Nevertheless this is about to change with Sony first announcing price rises of upto about 32% closely followed by Yamaha, Denon, Panasonic and expect more to follow. These price increases will begin to take effect from January 2009 on various existing models and imminent new models. So the continuous downward trend is just about to change. Furthermore if the pound weakens any more then the prices will have to rise even further.
Because of these imminent price rises right now is the best time to buy the HD LCD television, high definition Plasma television, Blu-Ray player etc that you have been promising yourself for so long or else you will probably pay more in the future. If you dont take this opportunity right now it may be a long time before retail prices return to their present levels. If you dont believe that this will happen then you will pay extra.
