It is strange how some people do not like to travel too far from home on their vacation while others like to travel as far as possible. Fortunately, there isn't a corner of the earth that doesn't have a travel site dedicated to it so it is easy obtaining information on the internet. It is now true that increasing numbers of people carry out all their travel arrangements using internet web sites. Gone are the days when travel agents were popular and sought after as websites have popped up everywhere and promise all of their customer's extraordinary savings.
There is obviously a great deal of trust required to use the internet this way as often the companies you deal with have never been anything else but an internet based business. I much prefer to deal with someone I can see and touch, that's why I still use my travel agent and I also know they have a real office that I can visit. With a travel agent, I can change my mind about my plans several times, call and ask questions, and have someone to blame should my vacation not turn out to be what I was hoping for. It is difficult complaining to a travel site and almost impossible to actually speak to a real person, plus with today's technology it is almost impossible to say where they are in the world.
They may say something just to appease you and it will not hold true in the end. It is this fear of the problems that can occur and if they do happen it is too late that prevents me from being more trusting in the way that I trust my travel agent. A best friend of mine only books her vacations on travel sites and often she'll book a last minute vacation that a travel site is offering which is one huge advantage of using a travel site. Admittedly, she has save a small fortune this way as she will just look at the sites and be patient until the right vacation comes up at the right price.
It would be nice to do this but my career does not allow for impulsive travel arrangements. Using a travel site does have other advantages as well because while you can save money on the vacation itself, there are also savings to be made on additional excursions and trips as well if pre-booked. Knowing a little about what you want and information about the location you want to travel too can be useful so I still research as much of this as I can online before I pay my travel agent a visit. I take that information and then see a travel agent because at least I know that if my vacation turns out to be a nightmare, I have someone to come back and yell at.
