Ski trips are no longer the bare bones experience common in the 1970s and 1980s. Now ski resorts spanning Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, and Utah are in a competition to build the top ski resort experience.
The last 10 years have brought increasing expansion to the size of resort facilities, on mountain services, shopping, and dining. While there are many top quality ski resorts; Vail Resort in Vail, Colorado and Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah consistently take the #1 and #2 spots as rated by Ski Magazine readers. Deer Valley Resort has taken the number one position in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
To earn the #1 position Deer Valley Resort has focused not only on the quality of its skiing, but also on mountain services and the Deer Valley restaurant experience. Deer Valley does not just serve visitors lunch during the day. At night they convert their lodges into fine restaurants which are easily some of the top restaurants in Deer Valley and Park City UT.
The Mariposa is considered Deer Valleys flagship restaurant serving European continental cuisine. Fireside Dining provides optional romantic horse drawn sleigh rides prior to dinner and a unique Swiss alpine menu served beside wood burning fireplaces. The Seafood Buffet is a well known favorite featuring a large selection of seafood as well as hearty fare from the grill.
The town of Park City has followed suit by increasing the amount of high-end accommodations, upscale dining, and shopping options. The expansion over the previous ten years has been very noticeable with hundreds of new luxury lodging options slowly replacing the more traditional ski vacation accommodations.
As a result of this recent transition towards a more discerning visitor, Deer Valley and Park City restaurants have responded by cultivating an ever improving dining experience. Mobile, Michelin, AAA, and Zagat rank several restaurants close to Deer Valley Resort as top choices within their widely read guide books.
My favorite restaurant is the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant because of its timeless Austrian decor and the delicious cheese fondue appetizer. The Goldener Hirsch Restaurant is located in the Goldener Hirsch Inn situated in the Silver Lake Village area of Deer Valley. The Glitretind Restaurant is another top rated option which is located in the world renowned Stein Eriksen Lodge.
Living up to its number 1 ski resort reputation, Deer Valley Resort certainly will not disappoint. No matter what your personal preference you will definitely be able to find something to your liking both on and off the mountain. Deer Valley is definitely worth a closer examination. Two thumbs up!
