So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Vegetable Oil As Fuel, Is It A Solution?

By Bob Hobson

Yes, Vegetable oil as fuel is now possible. Back in the 1900s this new idea was introduced at the World's Fair by the Otto Company showing that they had an engine running on pure peanut oil. The idea was researched and studied by Rudolph Diesel himself that vegetable oil can be used as an alternative fuel in engines.

So don't run down to the local store and purchase gallons of vegetable oil for your car or truck because that won't work the density is higher so therefore is must get mixed or diluted with other products in order to make the fuel system work. By mixing or diluting the oil it makes for the perfect consistency to make your vehicle run and work properly.

If you use plain vegetable oil you can stop or clog up the engine which will lead to engine failure and needless to say hundreds of dollars to clean out or a whole new engine all together and we all know that isn't cheap.

There are several different methods that have been tried to fix the problem such as diluting or mixing the vegetable oil with diesel or kerosene. There are many companies on the market that will sell you hundreds of dollars worth of solvents to complete the atmoization but they don't work it all must be done properly in order to function correctly.

The most used method is by modifying the vehicle to use a two tank system. One fuel tank is filled with vegetable oil; the other is filled with diesel fuel. This method used a pre-heating system and three way valves to start the engine on diesel fuel then, using some type of heat exchanger to heat the vegetable oil to a temperature high enough to reduce its viscosity. When the oil is hot enough the three way valves switch the incoming diesel fuel off and switch the vegetable oil on.

The new engines are made to be able to use vegetable oil and a single tank which uses fuel injectors, glow plugs and other engine modifications to provide for vegetable oil burning. Special made pre-heaters bring the vegetable oil to the right temperature before it goes into the fuel system. These new single tank systems work on the on and go system and stop automatically when it is cold.

So to answer the first question yes the use of vegetable oil to run a car is possible and a alternative to fossil fuels. With today's technology and new things coming out everyday it is possible to run your engine on vegetable oil.
