So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

The 6 Advantages Of Oatmeal Consumption

By Quinn Harris

You really should try eating a bowl of oatmeal every morning. In this article, the six benefits of eating oatmeal will be explained, as well as the ways to make it taste better.

First of all, know that the oatmeal discussed here isn't the instant kind because they are full of sugar. The real stuff is the plain oat flakes from Quaker Oats or a similar brand.

Now the benefits of oatmeal are there because oats are a good source of soluble and insoluble fibers.

Insoluble fiber's cancer-fighting properties are due to the fact that it attacks certain bile acids, reducing their toxicity.

Soluble fiber can reduce LDL cholesterol without affecting HDL cholesterol. LDL is actually bad cholesterol, and HDL is good cholesterol.

Soluble fiber can also slow down the digestion of starch. This may be beneficial to diabetics because, when you slow down the digestion of starch, you avoid the sharp rises in your blood sugar level that usually occurs following a meal.

It has been found that those who eat more oats are less likely to develop heart disease, a disease that is currently widespread in the United States.

Oats have phytochemicals that can fight cancer.

Oats are a good source of many nutrients including vitamin E, zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium. Oats are also a good source of protein.

Soluble and insoluble fibers do different things in the body.

Insoluble fiber makes stools heavier so constipation can be avoided. Soluble fiber breaks down as it goes through the digestive track, and it forms a gel that can trap substances related to high cholesterol, so there will be less absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream.

Granted, oatmeal does taste bland, so it can take some getting used to. Here are some ways to make oatmeal taste better.

Cook oatmeal with milk instead of water. This will add calcium and protein.

Add some Stevia powder to your oatmeal. It will naturally sweeten up the taste without adding sugar.

Add your favorite flavored protein powder to cooked oatmeal. This gives the oatmeal a pretty good taste plus it adds protein. You can even add milk to this for more nutrition.

You may even add fruits like blueberries to your oatmeal.

You should eat about 1 cup of cooked oatmeal every morning. You should try different suggestions until you find a taste that you really love.

Your heart and body will thank you for it!
