So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Make Your Interior More Stylish With Wooden Sash Windows

By Andrew Brentford

There was a time when a wooden sash window was a common site. Over time this traditional form has been replaced with the more familiar hinge version. However increasingly more people are looking at wooden sash windows for modern interior design and style.

People stopped using sash windows for a number of different reasons. A big issue was how damp got into the seams and this in turn caused the rope in the mechanism to rot. These older style models soon became hard to replace, maintain and clean. They started to be seen as a nuisance and were often replaced by people moving into new properties.

Fortunately in recent times there has been a resurgence in this style of frame. Designers have looked in the flaws of the older version and looked at how to improve the efficiency of this design while at the same time maintaining the quintessential qualities that people associate with it. The main reason for this has been the development of more effective materials.

In simple terms the sash window is a series of wooden shutters operated by a weight attached to a dropper. Traditionally this dropper was made of rope. As moisture got into the home due to damp coming through the window this caused the rope to rot and this meant it had to be replaced.

This led to further problems as fitters found them difficult to replace. Both these problems have been addressed with a change in materials. The rope in the dropper has been replaced with nylon, while the glass in the window panes have been replaced with double glazing. Anti fungal and weather proofing coating also help to prevent the development of mould and rot that damage the frames.

The frames themselves have also been designed to be detachable. This means they are more flexible and can be installed in a number of different homes. It also allows for a more versatile variety of designs. This includes a number of wood finishes and varnishes for a more attractive aesthetic quality.

As with any type of product it is important to consider your budget and what works for your home. It is generally advised to look for the type of frame that you want and then compare prices from three different companies. This will help you to get the best deal for the frame you want. With the right approach you will find wooden sash windows for modern interior design and style.
