BMW's subsidiary, Mini John Cooper Works, announced Wed that it will unveil a new hard-top John Cooper Works GP II next Month in France. The Cooper GP II is a follow-up to the much-sought-after 2006 Mini Cooper GP, which was created in a limited number.
Arriving in France in a month
The 2006 Mini Cooper GP was not very comfortable, and only 415 of them showed up in the States. There were only 2,000 made total.
From May 11 to May 11, the Mini United Festival will take place in La Castellet, France. This is where the Mini GP II will debut
BMW's M section CEO Dr. Kay Segler publicized this on Wed at a meeting about the New York Auto show. The New York Auto Show will open on April 5.
Highest-performing Mini ever
The Mini Series 1 for the car maker ended with production of the Mini Cooper GP. Although there were not a lot produced and they cost $30,000 to get, all of the automobiles sold. The car weighed a lot less than other automobiles without a back seat, which meant it had great performance with 215 horses.
In the six years between 2006 and now, the Mini Cooper GP has lost a ton of value, although may collectors are still interested in it.
Looking at the details
The exact specifics about the Mini Cooper GP II remain deliberately vague, but Mini hinted that the model will feature a "particularly high-performance turbo engine, racing-oriented suspension technology and exclusive, aerodynamically optimized body components."
Even though it is a well-kept secret, it will most likely have more than 208 horsepower, experts expect. It will "have a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder motor, with approximately 220 horsepower," according to World Car Fans.
The brand new Mini Cooper GP II may have better performance than the first car if it is lighter than the first, according to Car and Driver. The GP II will come and go just like the GP did with only a short, limited run.
A ten year reunion
The Mini will have a special edition available in red, white or blue that will celebrate the 10 years in the U.S., Mini announced at the New York Auto Show.
