So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Downlights: Best Lighting Solution for Kitchens

By Louis O. Rollins

As a homeowner, the ideal kitchen you probably have in mind is an attractive, comfortable, clean and bright one. However, the electricity bills that you monthly pay seem to be constantly increasing. With this, how can we have an attractive and bright kitchen? Can our lighting system help us cut down our electricity cost while allowing us to have the kitchen that we always want?

Fortunately, there's a type of lighting that can light up your kitchen the way we want it to be - downlights. Aside from being functional and decorative lighting that last for years, kitchen downlights are good to install because they also save you a surprising amount of cash over their lifespan. This type of lighting system is much more efficient compared to the electricity needed to light up incandescent lamps which most houses often use.

These days, many homeowners consider down-lighters in their lighting plans because they lie within the level of the ceiling. Therefore, these lightings give an illusion of more height to make the kitchen area look roomy.

Moreover, another reason why homeowners love to use this lighting system is because they are more hygienic and easier to clean. They have no cables or wires dangling down which can catch dust or grease. Downlights also allow better positioning for illuminated areas as the lighted areas can be best adjusted based on needs whether for aesthetic or practical functions.

Basically, you may not realise that your lighting system can heat up so much your kitchen. However, your kitchen naturally has kettles, toasters and cookers naturally give off heat to as part of their use to give hot meals and drinks.

You should also understand that using incandescent light bulbs as your lighting system can heat up your kitchen more. In fact, they become very expensive for the wrong purpose because only 10% of their energy is converted to light production and the other 90% is converted to heat. Therefore, the energy they use is converted to heat, more than light.

Plus, you should realise that they become very expensive for the wrong purpose because only 10% of their energy is converted to light production and the rest are all converted to heat. The energy they use is converted more to heat than to light. Thus, using incandescent light bulbs as your lighting system can increase your kitchen's temperature more.

In contrast, there is another type of lighting system that is designed to focus on light production - Downlights, especially LED. They give little or no heat at all because they are designed with fine construction that takes away any heat build-up.

Always Remember:

The first thing you can probably do is just based on your personal preferences so it's very easy: before you install your downlights in your kitchen, identify the exact number of light bulbs you need or want.

And because electricity is dangerous and it could kill you, evaluate your electrical skills or knowledge first before you install the lamp. Ask yourself whether you can install the lighting yourself or should you get an electrician in.
