So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

A Complete Guide To Getting An MOT In Torquay

By Ania Stan

From three years of age, your vehicle is required by law to have an MOT certificate. A valid MOT certificate is required to get a Tax Disc and both documents are required by law to be able to drive in the UK.

The MOT certificate proves that your car is safe and roadworthy. Your vehicle is tested annually and the certificate renewed. If your car fails its test, it will need the required work done before the certificate can be issued. Therefore you should take your vehicle before it's due in case it ends up off the road.

The centre you choose for your MOT in Torquay should be fully equipped with expert staff so that your test and any repairs can be done swiftly and properly.

There are some checks you can do yourself prior to taking your car for an MOT in Torquay, that will improve your vehicle's likelihood of passing:

* Tyres - the tread should not be below the minimum (1.6mm) for a passenger vehicle (may vary with other vehicles)

* Suspension - Check it isn't loose or making noises that could indicate the joints are damaged

* Exhaust - should be free of rust, wear and should not be noisy

* Fluids - water, brake oil, engine oil, coolant and power steering oil should all be topped up

Having a regular, good quality car service should ensure your car passes its MOT. It will also keep your car in good condition. You should have a service once a year, or if you're a high mileage user once every 12,000 miles is recommended, though this mileage can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle.

See below for what to expect from an MOT test:

* Registration plates and vehicle registration - checked to ensure the numbers and letters are displayed as per law and that they are legible and securely fixed to the vehicle

* Vehicle emissions - tested to ensure they comply with the law

* Steering and suspension systems - checked to see they are working properly and also the wipers and washer bottle. The horn will also be checked to ensure it is the correct type.

* Seatbelts - checked and tested to ensure they are the correct type and work properly

* Seats and mirrors - checked to ensure they are safe, secure and also work properly

* Brakes - must be checked for efficiency and performance

* Bodywork - examined to see if there is any damage where there are sharp edges, or corrosion

* The doors, boot and bonnet - these should close properly and the latches should work

* Lights and headlamps - checked to make sure they are the right colour, properly aimed, securely fixed and in working order

* Windscreen - there should be no cracks or chips that could obscure the driver's view

* Wheels and tyres - they will check the tread is of correct depth, that they are securely fitted, in good condition and of the right type and size

* Fuel system - this will be tested to make sure there are no leaks and that the filler cap fits

If you do the above checks on your vehicle, get it serviced regularly and be aware of the type of things that are checked during an MOT and keep on top of them, you vehicle will be more likely to pass its MOT. Also its general condition will be better, saving you money in the long run.
