So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Guide To Creating Quilt Displays In The Home

By Enid Hinton

A quilt as a home accessory has so much to offer. It is not only beautiful but practical, blending softness, color, pattern and warmth. Many people are not aware of all the possibilities for using quilts in the home. Quilt displays make stunning soft furnishings around the house. To follow are some tips to provide some inspiration.

Old fashioned quilts look great displayed in traditional arrangements, folded neatly at the foot of a bed or as a bed cover. Another fun idea is to stack a quilt or two on top of a blanket box in order to show off its color and texture. This makes a welcoming addition to a guest bedroom, giving your guest the option to add additional covers to the bed at night.

Very large quilts look exceptional on beds, where their full glory can be shown off. Many people collect old and antique quilts which may have tattered fabric. Of course, this adds to the authenticity of the piece, but if you prefer to hide damaged areas, there are some things you can do.

Folding the quilt strategically to hid tears and rips is a good option. This allows you to use the quilt as an accent of texture and pattern in the room. For example, you might drape it neatly over the back of a chair or sofa. Furthermore, there are some designers who gently repair old quilts. However, if you are thinking of doing this keep in mind that making changes can affect the value. That is why it is best to go with an experienced professional.

You can also arrange quilts on the wall. There are many ways to tackle this but it is made easiest when the quilt is of a manageable size. Some designs are intended specifically as wall hangings. One beautiful idea is to create your own personalized wall hanging which includes patterns which connect to everyone in the family.

It is clear that a quilt can be as enchanting to look at as a memory album or special painting. It has just as much texture and color. You might also consider incorporating clothing that your children have outgrown as part of a quilt for added personal meaning.

Make sure that the fabric you choose is appropriate for the project. Very stretchy or synthetic types can be difficult to sew. You can find further tips on how to approach this type of project online and in quilting guides and books.

For more practical suggestions about how to best show off quilts in your home, there are many interior design guides to assist. Check out some of the well known homes magazines which often include hints and tips for using soft furnishings in an interior. Furthermore, online you can find a variety of blogs and websites which focus on soft furnishings. They may include projects and instructions as well as look books for ideas and inspiration. Lastly, you may want to consider taking a quilting class, which is an opportunity to meet like minded creative people while picking up lots of practical knowledge.
