So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Underwater Boat Cleaning Fort Lauderdale Adds Efficiency To Your Hull

By Joyce Cooper

Boat owners are very much aware of the effects of a clogged hull. Marine growth at the bottom of your hull is just as common as the heat during summer. As opposed to a smooth sliding through the water, marine growth under the hull drags and reduces the speed. However, with Underwater Boat cleaning Fort Lauderdale, you can have these setbacks eliminated. Regular washing below the hull can eventually save you huge maintenance costs in the long run.

Marine growth is very problematic and results in fouling. This growth is constant and usually starts within four months. Even on newly painted hulls treated with one of the best toxic paint, fouling can occur affecting the smooth slipping by the hull through the water. Again, there is an extra demand on the engines in order to maintain speed. This means there will be higher fuel consumption to maintain the speed thereby adding to the fuel cost irrespective of the size of the vessel.

washing the bottom of your hull regularly helps to maintain and increase the performance of bottom paint, and reducing the rate of reapplying new paint. Regular cleaning also promotes fuel efficiency because of a smooth and a clean bottom.

When cleansing the hull, it is essential to use fresh water and avoid dirt build up through spot cleaning. Avoid detergents and soaps getting in the water because they can add nutrients into the water, and promotes the growth of algae while suppressing oxygen to fish and other aquatic animals. A good practice is to move the boat into a catch basin and perform cleaning out of the water. This is usually important since you can avoid toxic material such as tin, mercury, chromium and lead found in ablative paints getting into the water putting a hazard to the marine life.

The clean up process should be performed carefully, to avoid damaging the surface of the hull. Hiring an experienced professional diver is a great idea. Use special tools while cleaning because a minimal amount of paint is usually removed during hull cleaning, and if too much of it is removed, it can put a serious risk to aquatic environment. Special tool and materials like soft sponges produce safe results.

If you live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, carrying out hull inspection is important when washing underwater. Grounding may result in damaging the prop and the hull. Inspect the propulsion system as well as at the bottom, and have any damage fixed. This reduces maintenance costs while preventing further damage.

Washing around the waterline would be a good point to begin with. Waterline is usually the place where slime, stains, and weedy growth accumulates faster. By cleaning the waterline first and then an arm length underwater, your boat would look cosmetically better and you will have solved many other problems even without going under the boat.

Finally, make sure you burnish and shine as much as you can the underwater metal at the start of every season. This is because the slicker and shinier it is the longer it will keep off growth resulting into fuel efficiency.
