So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Guidelines On Marine Toilet Odor Control

By Greg Haus

Most of the modern lavatories today are easy to clean and maintain. However, if regular cleaning and maintenance of these important facilities are not done then the common results are bad odor and accumulation of dirt. Yacht toilet odor control is thus important in keeping the lavatories clean and smelling fresh all through. Here are some tips to achieve this.

It is uncommon to find such lavatories producing a bad stench. One main source of such a smell is usually the discharge hose. The smell is produced once the discharge hose becomes permeable. To solve the issue, it needs to be replaced with a better one. To confirm if the hose is producing the smell, rub it with a damp and clean cloth, if it has a bad smell then the hose needs to be replaced.

Leaking connections can also be a source of the bad smell. The process using a clean damp cloth is repeated to confirm that the connections are leading to the bad smell. Often around the piston rod seal is the main area affected by bad smells due to poor connections. At times tightening the seal can help reduce the stench but a times replacement of the seal is the only option.

Trapped marine life and grass may also cause the bad smell. The organisms are often trapped in the passage through which the flush water passes or under the rim bowl. Whether alive or dead, they will cause a bad smell. Installing a strainer in the intake line will help filter these organisms and other particles from the water thus removing the bad smell.

The anti-siphon valve in the discharge lines can also be the cause of the bad odors. The valve vents should thus be properly installed outside the cabin area so as to avoid the bad smells at your home due to the valves. For situations in which the main cause of the bad smells is not identified, the main action used to handle the issue is an overhaul of the whole system.

In the lavatory system, there is a lot of accumulated scale deposits mainly as a result of using salty water in flushing. The deposits accumulate on any part of the system, for example, the valves thus causing them to allow leaking back of water. In other instances, it will also block the system. To help reduce a number of accumulated calcium deposits, use white vinegar in flushing at least once a month.

Acids can also be used to clear the calcium scales. The use of acid to clear the accumulates can be repeated over and over again till you are certain that the calcium scales are cleared completely as it does not affect the surface. Furthermore, to ensure that the pump walls are lubricated, and the leather parts and internal rubber are supple, you can use s dose of oil together with the vinegar flush on a monthly basis.

It may not be easy to ensure that your lavatory does not produce bad smells but by following the above guidelines, you can have a fresh and clean lavatory. Regularly cleaning and conducting the above processes will help ensure that this is achieved. For problems that you cannot solve on your own, it is advisable that you get an expert to solve it for you.
