So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

No Going Back From Synthetic Engine Oils

By Deanne Crothers

Determining the length of time the oil should stay in the engine, is a little tricky. This is due to the fact that, it mostly depends on how the car is used, what conditions the vehicle is exposed to and the driving habits of the owner. We all know that these factors vary from person to person. Meaning, if your use the car in a certain way there are specific instructions as to how often you should drain the oil. Our goal is to be able to categorize and identify these.

The following conditions an be considered near ideal and if the engine is operated under them, the oil change interval can be extended to the maximum as stated by the auto , truck or Sports Utility Vehicle maker and manufacturer. These are firstly that the engine is mechanically sound. Secondly that the engine is operated for reasonably long periods of time each time it is ignited. Thirdly that the engine temperatures are maintained between 180 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit (corresponding to approximately 82 to 92 degrees Celsius. Yet if you drive under extreme weather conditions as a Ford owner might find varying from a 40 below zero January to a sweltering Manitoba summer day. Yet if your truck or car breaks down and you wonder where your reliable transportation is - its not an easy task to sswap your ride.

Carburetor or fuel injection gasoline fuel systems must be in good stead and properly adjusted. Intake air is properly filtered with a clean and undamaged air filter. The engine's oil filter must be in good condition as well. The engine speeds overall during driving and on trips should be moderate to a reasonably high range. Of course engines should be operated under clean environmental conditions. Lastly when choosing the maximum oil change interval as assigned by the manufacturer, ensures that the engine is not overloaded as may occur when the vehicle is towing a heavy trailer or similar heavy load. It can be said that often trained service techs at a factory trained auto service center who know their vehicles technically better may be a wiser choice to ask than driving all over Canada asking some barely trained staff wet behind the ears. Then again you may wonder perhaps after all you have had good service from your vehicle. Its done its day,km or miles. Your truck or car has driven enough Vancouver mountain roads to begin with. Perhaps its time to upgrade with a brand new car replacement model. The slogan and appropriate express used to be time for a brand new vehicle. After all ,auto ownership is all about reliable transportation - within your families automobile & transport financial monthly budget.

The American Petroleum Institute says that this change should be done at "regular intervals" and check with the recommendations given in your car's service manual. Usually, there are two types: one for mileage which, in most cars is as around 3,000 miles; and the other one is for time, at around three months. When it's summer time decrease the recommendation by 10% and by winter 20%. For example, in winter the oil must be changed around 2,400 miles. This is the computation for maximum oil-change intervals. It might be a bit costly and inconvenient for some, but you are assured that the car is in good condition when you need it to be. These suggestions should only be used a basis for when you should change the oil. Take it with a grain of salt. If you have an upcoming cross-country trip where you expect to travel around 7,000 miles, it is not practical to have your oil change every 2,700 miles in the summer. Granting that ideal conditions are present like well-paved roads, high speed driving and clean highways, then you can make an exemption. If luck isn't on your side and an encounter with a bad dust storm occurs, good reason will tell you that an oil-drain must be done earlier than usual.

When driving under harsh conditions, this can qualify as "Super Severe Service". This is when adverse climatic conditions make it necessary for the recommended time intervals to be shortened. This is applicable to activities such as towing a trailer in a mountainous region under very hot weather. The main idea is, these suggestions should also be coupled with good judgment. After all, the owners are the best persons to determine how soon oil changes must be done because they are fully aware of how often and how hard their cars are drive.q

Top Tips To Help You With Auto Repair

By Fred Gagnon

Car ownership gives you an incredible sense of freedom. Having a reliable vehicle allows you to travel and often earn a living. But it can also leave you stranded on the roadside when a mechanical malfunction occurs. The following article can help you know more about auto repair.

When you run into car problems, you should first turn to the Internet to learn what the problem could be. You may find that it is an easy to repair problem that you can do on your own. This could save you hundreds of dollars in labor fees if you had to take it to a shop.

Check the tread on your tires regularly to make sure they are safe. Tires that have less than one quarter of an inch of tread probably need to be replaced. Also be aware of any bulges or cuts on the surface of your tires as this may indicate a weak area that could blow out and cause an accident while you are driving.

In addition to basic tire changing equipment, keep a plastic tote filled with DIY auto repair supplies in the trunk of your car in case of emergencies. Fill it with at least a quart each of motor oil, transmission fluid, steering fluid, and brake fluid and a gallon of water. Add a can of penetrating oil spray, a roll of duct tape, twine, bungee cords and basic tools so that you can manage minor repairs on the road.

When you are going to get your car repaired at a shop, ask the technician what type of parts they plan to use to get the job done. Many places use refurbished parts, but they would be willing to use new parts if you wanted to pay the extra money.

Ask your auto mechanic about their A.S.E. certification. The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence has a test twice a year for it. To earn this certification, mechanics must pass a written test while also having about two years of work experience in auto mechanics and repair. This certification increases your chances of finding competent mechanics.

If your vehicle seems to be leaking fluids, start by replacing the gaskets and seals. The most common area for leaks is where different parts join together. You may not need an expensive repair if the leak stems from one of these easily replaceable areas. If the leak continues after replacement, you may have a more extensive leak.

Radiator

Regularly check out your radiator. Let the car idle for a short period first, but only long enough to let the fluid circulate. You should never open the radiator of a car that is running. Check how much fluid is in the radiator with a dipstick and keep in mind that you should always mix coolant with water before pouring it in your radiator.

Watch the wet puddles beneath your car. Color and uniformity may help you establish the issue. If it's pastel blue, yellow-green or fluorescent-orange, it can be an antifreeze leak caused by a bad hose, leaking radiator, or water pump, or an hot engine. Dark brown or black oily messes could mean a bad gasket or seal produces the leak. Red oily puddles are frequently the result of a power-steering or transmission fluid leak. Crystal-clear puddles usually aren't anything to think about, as they may be moisture build-up or condensation from the vehicle.

Whenever your auto repair technician suggests a typical service like a radiator flush, be sure to ask why it's important. Determine whether you will have issues if it's not done quickly. As soon as convinced that the service needs to be accomplished now, make sure you know precisely how much you will pay. Learning the cost of parts and labor and getting a firm estimate beforehand will save you from disagreeable surprises.

If your car overheats, you should pull over on the side of the road and shut it down. Call a tow truck and have the car taken to a garage or dealership. If you keep driving your car after it starts overheating, you might damage your radiator badly enough to need a new one.

Repairs do not always have to run into the thousands. Many times it is possible to fix your own problems. Apply the tips from this article to keep your vehicle in good shape.
