So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Hardware Is Your Home's Selling Point

By Christine Carrier

When we say hardware, what immediately comes to mind are nails, pegs and screws. We overlook the bigger picture, which is actually far better than the image of hammering nails and tightening locks.

According to recent articles, home hardware's distinct space like the kitchen and the bathroom are living spaces that provide the best resale value given the weight of improvements or renovations in these rooms. Interesting, isn't it? Hence, the more you should be paying attention to hardware and fixtures especially if you're planning on selling or leasing your home in the future.

Start small by upgrading the handles of cabinets, drawers and furniture, particularly in the kitchen and bathroom where they are most used anyway. Opt for bronze or brushed stainless steel for more a sophisticated look, and for long and rectangular shapes for easier usage. The handles will be easier to push and pull.

Why not upgrade your doors other than the usual varnish and repaint? Replace the door knobs or handles too.

Rather than keeping towels in cabinets, install stainless steel racks in both bathroom and kitchen. Racks in the kitchen probably will have to be shorter than those in the bathroom, but make the best use of whatever space is available. Using stainless steel racks means that they won't tarnish or otherwise discolor, and they provide a focal point to display some of your prettiest linens.

Moving on now to the lighting - this is another hardware item that surely deserves attention. What's a beautiful home without sufficient light, right? Lightings in the bathroom and kitchen should be periodically checked because they are exposed more to moisture. Safety is important. Functional doesn't have to be boring, so go for lighting fixtures that are eye-catching. There are lamps and overhead lights with vivid colors, designs and shapes.

The tiles in the kitchen and bathroom are also essential for making these living spaces attractive. Replace old wallpaper with tile. Make your rooms stand out by using ethnic designs for the tiles or those with bold patterns.

Finally, what about those old aluminum blinds on the windows? Isn't it about time those Venetians passed into history? Definitely replace old-style blinds or traditional curtains with new styles, such as wood horizontals or acrylic verticals. You just might see your home in a whole new light! While you are at it, don't forget area rugs for the floors. They add color and texture to any room they are placed in and tie in all the other decor elements in the room.
