So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

A Brief History Of Jewelry

By Jane Smith

Jewelry is found in every corner of the globe, from the north pole to the south. It is worn by everyone from children to elders, and by men and women alike. It serves a myriad of purposes depending on the country, time and place. The most common reasons are as a form of currency, and storing that currency, to hold clothing together or some other functional ability, to symbolize something, such as a club or status, to protect as an amulet or other form of mystical protection, or as a creative display. It is seen in endless colors, shapes, sizes, textures, and prices.

Almost all of it in the world is purchased instead of crafted, yet some areas of the globe create more often than buy (but might barter more). An easy example is the daisy crown, created by weaving daisy stems together. While cheap, it is not very long lasting, like others made out of sturdier material. And even still, some continue to buy daisy crowns instead of make them.

Many different types are worn on the head. Tiaras are a form of headband, usually ornamented by jewels or precious metals than made of cloth. Some incorporate cloth ties on a side. Tiaras are commonly worn by royalty, and not typically used every day. Other forms of decor that may accompany a tiara can be worn every day.

Earrings are a typical example of something worn to complement a headpiece. Requiring that the wearer pierce through an area of body tissue, it is not uncommon for an individual to remain unpierced, foregoing the chance to wear earrings. Clip-on earrings have been designed for this reason. Yet for those who can tolerate the level of pain, there are a myriad of options available. The most common areas to piece include earlobes, other areas of the ear, multiple sections of the nose, lips, and eyebrows, and bellybuttons. A few extremists have pierced areas of the genitals.

Necklaces are another one of the most widespread types of jewelry. Worn around the neck, they usually resemble a thin rope, featuring a main focus point in the center. However, many necklaces have multiple focus points, or pendants, and some have none at all. There are many different lengths and styles, as well as materials used. The main factor in deciding the price of a necklace is the rarity of the metals or precious gems used. Diamond necklaces are much more expensive than metal chains.

Casual necklaces are usually cheaper and worn daily, consisting of one or a few main pendant type features. Fancier necklaces tend to be made of expensive materials and jewels, or expensive seeming ones. Cubic zirconia is a popular form of fake jewelry made to resemble expensive gems such as diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and more.

Bracelets can be thought of necklaces for the wrist. Due to the changing nature of the viewing angle of the wrist, bracelets will typically not have a single point of interest, like a necklace. They usually feature a repeating pattern instead. They are often worn in accompaniment of necklaces or earrings. Like the two, they can be very expensive depending on the materials.

Jewelry is a large market, and a vast majority of first-world inhabitants own many pieces. It serves as an artistic method of creation for some individuals, which can potentially lead to the opening of a small business. No matter its beginnings, every type of jewelry has endless potential.
