Unfortunately, I find that the known bad sites are among the top few that pop up when doing a search. Without NIS, I would certainly have selected some of those bad sites had there not be the NIS warning. Once again Norton gets a 5 star rating from me. It installed cleanly over my older version, and runs quietly in the background. The new Norton seems to be updating 10-20 times a day, constantly slowing down my computer. I can get all kinds of analysis and graphs that I do not need, but no help or even more importantly OPTIONS to stop the spastic eternal updating.
I always buy through Amazon as it is so much cheaper than letting Norton do the upgrade. The service I get from the Sellers at Amazon is terrific.
It prompts me to take some action from time to time. No attacks appear to have taken place. Have been using Norton for years and it works quite well and is a lot cheaper from Amazon than it is direct from Norton. Seems strange that to upgrade a program on your computer is more expensive than purchasing it new with packaging and CD but that's the case.
Instead, Symantec prefers to try to gouge its customers. For this software which is currently selling for $37.99 on Amazon, Symantec charges $59.99 for renewal.
If you check their website, there are others with the same problem. If the next phone call does not resolve the problem, I will take a loss and purchase another system. The main screen is divided into 3 main categories, "Computer," "Network," and "Web." The Computer section is the meat of the suite covering viruses, spyware and other malware.
Been running it for a couple months and wouldn't even know it was there except for two or three times that it notified me of an unsafe website or potential hack. Also very easy to select e-mail addresses as 'spam' which it sends to the 'junk' e-mail folder for deletion. We have used Norton internet protection for several years. My husband is a computer programmer and this is the system they use at his work. We use it three computers of our own and two of our handicapped son. All installations seem to work flawlessly.
Now, every-time I boot my computer, I open Norton and turn the whole thing off until next reboot. It is inconvenient and time consuming to do this, but that is how annoying I find this software. Support fixed those issues remotely, and then offered to upgrade one of the machines on the spot to the new version. Great move, because everything got better and easier.
