Rome - The Magic about Trastevere Area

Intro - Trastevere Area is famous for its restaurants, pubs, movie theaters, and nightlife. In the evening, all of the cafes and restaurants tables spill out over to the pavement, especially in the area of Santa Maria Square in Trastevere. The morning here has instead a unique and antique charm mainly due to Trastevere's narrow cobbled alleyways.

The Area - Trastevere is the district that stretches along the right bank of the Tiber. Once called "Trans Tiberem" (across the Tiber) was looked upon as a precarious region.

It belonged to the Etruscans until Rome conquered it again and get back in control of both banks of the river. "Pons Sublicius" bridge (from Latin: "bridge built on piles") was the only one way from Trastevere to the city (Rome). With the Emperor Augustus this area soon began to be considered part of the city.

At the time of the 'Roman Republic', many sailors and fishermen moved here, and chose Trastevere as their home.

Later, with the wealth of the Imperial Age, luxury villas and gardens were constructed on the hillside of Trastevere. To name a few: Clodia, (Catullus' "friend") and Julius Caesar (his garden villa, the Horti Caesaris). The flat land below was occupied by the houses of the poor and small shops. Some of which are still there today!

Trastevere grew in the middle ages with narrow, winding, irregular streets; due to the mignani (structures on the front of buildings) there was no space for carriages to pass, therefore Trastevere remained a maze of narrow streets. This mix caused a strong contrast between the large, lavish houses of the upper classes and the small, ramshackle houses of the poor.

The streets had no pavement until the end of the 1400s. At first bricks were used, later replaced by sampietrini (cobble stones), which make up the famous narrow maze streets today.

Santa Maria in Trastevere is one of the oldest churches in Rome and probably the first to ever host an open ceremony. This is the queen of all churches in Trastevere and soon became the meeting point for devotion to the Virgin Mary by its people. It is believed that perhaps it was in this church Mother of God was worshiped in Rome. In Santa Maria in Trastevere Square there is an Octagonal fountain that today is a gathering point. Many modifications altered the church in the years but despite of the 18th century additions, it still retains its medieval character.

Nowadays, Trastevere maintains its character thanks to its narrow cobbled streets built in the medieval era. At night, both natives and tourists alike gather together around its many pubs and restaurants. The unique character of this neighborhood has become quite popular attracting tourists, locals, artists, foreign expats, and many famous people. This friendly area is strongly connected with the local community.

This is where John Cabot American University, The American Academy, the Rome campus of the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts and the Canadian University of Waterloo School of Architecture are. Also the American Pratt Institute School of Architecture is serving as a temporary home to an International student body.

Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum (Musica Elettronica Viva group), famous American musicians, lived here in the 60s and 70sin Via della Luce. Sergio Leone (director of Spaghetti Westerns) grew up in Viale Glorioso (a marble plaque to his memory is on the wall of the apartment building).

Sanyo has made some changes to its warranty for the benefit of the consumer. Sanyo covers the roller mechanism for 3 years, provides 1 year on the other parts and 1 year labor. They have started in home technician service and will cover the first year. This is a great step forward, because before you needed to take your chair to a service center. This was not much fun for anyone who had to do it. Also, Sanyo has a national call center which is open 24/7. The sensor then directs the chair to specific stress points based on these readings. The user must grip the wired sub remote for this function to work. So far the chair doesn't ask you any questions, so don't despair! This is a feature of the high end Sanyo chair and is an interesting feature. You can also change the position of the leg rest and the chair back from the sub remote. If the massage just hit a critical area, you can hit the repeat button and the massage will be repeated in the area just covered.

There are four massage therapies in the Sanyo SA 5000. They have Stiffness, Recovery, Relax and Fine. Stiffness is a Shiatsu style massage targeting the upper body and legs. Recovery is for easing and loosening stiff and tired muscles. Relax is geared for whole body relaxation and tranquility. Fine is for increasing blood and lymph flow. These automatic massages run the entire chair and provide for full body massages. These are all one-touch controls. There are 3 stretch controls that can also be used in conjunction with the automatic massages.

The manual massage techniques include the following: Grip, Shiatsu, Kneading, Tapping, and Combination. Grip makes use of the exclusive GK Rollers specially designed by Sanyo. The GK roller system can extend further outward than most roller systems. This makes gripping or grasping over the tops of the shoulders or around the neck possible. This is effective to provide relief in this area. Shiatsu is a combination of chopping and kneading actions. The kneading massage is a side to side pinching action which is very relieving. Tapping is a rapid succession of soft blows to loosen stiff muscle areas. Combination is using kneading and tapping simultaneous.

Are you looking for lower body relief? Sanyo provides an air compression system to provide a great squeeze, hold and release massage. This compression style massage is perfect for loosening up the tight muscles of the thighs, calves and feet. The airbags are designed with shiatsu style nodes to stimulate your acupressure points. These acupressure points help to induce whole body relaxation. If that is not enough, Sanyo has built in heating elements to warm the soles of your feet. This is a very comprehensive and thorough massage chair recliner.

When you examine the diet, you begin to understand that this claim is moderated due to the nature of the diet. Fat Loss 4 Idiot espouses "off" days, where you are free to eat whatever you desire. Each two-week period, you are to take three of these off days.

It's common knowledge that during the first four to five days on a diet, the pounds melt away, resulting from cleansing your colon and shedding water weight. On the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet then, you get the benefit of this initial loss during every two-week period.

Here's what that might look like: begin the diet and lose 9 pounds in 11 days, then gain 3 back during the next 3 days; drop 9 pounds during the second period and gain 3 back during the cheat days. The final result is indeed 9 pounds lost every 11 days, but a total weight loss of only 6 pounds every two weeks. Of course, even those numbers would be very difficult to maintain over the long term, but it does demonstrate how the diet creators approach weight loss.

A very positive part of this plan is the off days. During each two week period, you spend 11 days on the diet and 3 days off the diet. This is an effective, but little-used approach, and is one that is shared by another innovative diet, the Cheat to Lose Diet. The principle is that you keep your body from entering starvation or conservation mode with the off days, and because you can satisfy your cravings as often as every two weeks, the diet is easier to stick to than other fast weight lose diets over the long-term.

The diet is also very simple for anyone to implement because it spends no time, and I mean absolutely none, educating you about how the diet works. It simply tells you what to eat. On the positive side, this is the fastest, drop-dead-easy way to start a diet; but it is far from ideal for those dieters who are interested in the facts behind why a diet works the way it does. If you are an information consumer, this do-what-I-say approach can grow tired quickly.

One last point to note about the diet is the simplicity of it. It's fast and easy to start, and it's a low-maintenance plan because Fat Loss 4 Idiots doesn't place much importance on carbohydrate and calorie counting or even portion size; rather, the program constantly encourages you to "eat short of being full."

The major difference between the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet plan and other weight loss programs is that the Fat Loss 4 Idiots diet formula is specifically designed to keep your body guessing so it never thinks it's starving.

You should also be aware that this is a diet, nothing more. It's not a weight loss program and there is no exercise element involved. If your goal is fast weight loss, you are more than likely aware that you will need to incorporate an exercise component such as strength training and intervals to your overall plan.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots, like any other diet, works only if you work it. But Fat Loss 4 Idiots is simpler to work due to its low amount of required maintenance, regular off days, and easy plans. But you will be wise to avoid this diet if you want to see the details under the surface. Personally, I like facts, and I need facts to stick with a plan.
