So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Review of HumanAnatomyCourse - Human Anatomy Course

By John Rivers

Being a first year university student my hopes are centering around a career in medicine. Although I haven't determined as to exactly what area yet, I knew that I had to make some decisions in the very near future. One of my gravest concerns was not being able to keep up with the fast pace that medicine seems to dictate.

I am one of those students that really has to work for their marks. To help me with my decision making, I started to research the various medical fields that may be available to me. During that time ,I came across a very interesting advertisement for a home study anatomy training course. After reading just a bit about this course it really got me thinking as to where it could be applicable for me.

What I Liked About It:
After looking over the basics of the advertisement, I could see that maybe if I were to start this home study course now, that it would prepare me for the medical field that I decide to go in. Not only would it give me good knowledge to enter into my studies with, but perhaps it would supplement my studies during my entire training.

A more thorough study of the material confirmed this. I knew just by what I was seeing that I would be able to grasp the contents of the material, and learn it at my own pace. Based on what is in the contents of the advertisement and the examples that were shown I knew that no medical background was even necessary to start this course.

What I Didn't Like About It
During the first review of the advertisement I got the impression that although it was a home study course it was geared towards at the minimum 2nd year medical or nursing students. At this point I was going to stop reading it for a second time, but I wasn't fully convinced that what I was thinking was right. I did take a second look at it that's when I realized I was mistaken and it was on this second review that I based my opinions of what I liked about it.

Conclusion:
First I reminded myself not to make judgments in haste as I had almost done. I could have missed out on this excellent at home study course. In fact it could have meant that I would not have followed my choice to go into the medical field. It is as the result of having this concise home study anatomy training course that has given me the confidence to work towards my goals.

Used Go Karts Aren't Created Equal

By Go Kart Mama

Go Karting is gaining in popularity all around the world. This sport is seeing more and more newcomers purchasing go karts. For most, buying a go kart is a new experience. A buyer who has never owned a go kart will have many questions.

Before running out and buying the cheapest go kart on the market, there are some things you need to know and some questions you need to ask before laying out cash for a go kart.

First time buyers need to be aware that there are different go karts for different uses. The most popular go karts are those used by kids in the yard. Be aware that there are huge differences even in these types of go karts. Go karts designed for off road use are generally beefier and have stronger components along with a roll bar.

The frame of a used go kart should be the first thing you check. You'll want to give extra attention to the welded joints of the frame. Check for cracks in these areas. Also be on the lookout for bent framing members or frame sections that look like they have been recently painted. This may indicate a recent repair.

Check the front and back wheel bearings by supporting each end on blocks. Pull in and out on the wheels checking for wobbly wheels. Then check them again by pulling side to side. Bad bearings can lead to spindle damaged and any wheel bearing found to be bad should be replaced immediately.

Start the engine to see how it runs. If it's hard to start or dies often, this could mean a problem with the carb or ignition. Also, if the oil is milky colored, it means there is water in it. Be sure to smell the oil to see if it has a gas odor to it or a burnt odor. Either one is bad news and may mean an overhaul or replacement.

Another area where you'll want to pay close attention to is the linkage of the steering column and brakes. Worn or rusted connections need replaced. The throttle cable should also be checked for wear or damage. Replace if either one is found.

The next step will be to take the go kart out for a drive. Drive around slowly to see how the go kart handles. Loose steering can indicate problems with the linkage. Speed up to see how the engine handles at top speed. An engine that sputters, smokes or mis fires can indicate major trouble.

Drive the go kart. Is the handling tight or does it have a lot of play? Look at the connections from the steering shaft to the wheels. Rusted or damaged connections will need to be replaced.

To ensure you get the very best possible go kart you can for your family and you, simply follow the above tips and use a little common sense. If the deal sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Childrens Car Seats - What are the facts?

By Debra Milligan

I think our parents still marvel at all that we have to offer our babies; between technology and zillions of brand names, we have choices to give our kids that they'd never dreamed of giving us. I always shake my head when I hear the stories of how babies used to be transported in the back seat in their little bassinets or "Moses" baskets, just resting on the vehicle seat without any restraints. Or how the babies could easily be comforted by the mother while driving because, after all, they weren't belted in anywhere. It's not that our dads, grandparents, and prior generations were opposed to safety; it simply didn't exist in the form it does now. The first baby car seat to be invented was nothing more than a sack attached to the back seat with some strings. This is hardly comparable to the hundreds of options that parents of today can choose from.

Not only has what is being offered changed, but what is expected and demanded by law has also changed. Vehicle safety is an area of continuous restructuring as the government and various affiliations work to improve road safety. The sad truth is that most accidents can be prevented and this is especially saddening when you realize that most deaths of small children due to vehicular accidents are a result of being improperly restrained.

In Canada, each province may have its own child safety laws when it comes to car seat requirements just as different states have different traffic laws. It is essential that you are aware of these restrictions and requirements if you are traveling outside of your home town. Similarly, in Canada there are laws for restraining young children. Manufacturers advertise and warn parents of such restrictions, such as placing children under twelve in the front seat of a vehicle with airbags, but it is up to us to abide by and pay attention to these restrictions. If you are uncertain of the vehicle laws in your area, especially those that pertain to baby or child car seats , you can contact the traffic office, local MLA or other government agency. The importance of knowing how to install your baby's car seat and which car seat is right for your child can not be overstated. As Mr Binky says, "knowing is half the battle".the other half is 'doing'!

A new Kid is on the way and you either have a car seat or you don't. You may have an older car seat passed down by a friend or family member or you may have purchased a new one the moment you found out you were expecting. Are they both safe? Well, logically you are thinking that the baby that occupied the hand-me-down seat was kept safe and is thriving today so why wouldn't it do the same justice to your bundle of joy? Simply because everyday standards are changing and what was considered safe a few years ago is not necessarily safe today.

Can we make this easy on you and just tell you exactly which car seat is safe and perfect and wonderful? No, we can't do that either. All we can do is equip you with the knowledge of how to choose, purchase, install and use the appropriate safety seat.

It can be said that older seats are not the safest choice particularly if you do not know their history. Many people borrow seats, buy used ones or, as mentioned, get them handed down. What you may not know is that if the seat has any damage, cracks, faults or has been in an accident it is not keeping your baby safe. In these circumstances it is not a seat that you should trust your newborn child in. Now, this is not to say that one can never borrow a car seat.

Oh so many choices You don't just have to choose from different brand names and manufacturers or different features and options. Oh no! You also must choose from a variety of options in regards to "stages". There are baby carriers, rear facing seats, front facing seats and boosters as well as combination and convertible seats. Keep in mind, that most of these stages are for just that; the appropriate developmental stage that your child is at. I

The Feds recommends that children are in these seats or at the very least, in rear facing car seats until they are one year of age AND 20 pounds. Your child must have reached both milestones, according to law, to use a front facing seat. In fact, the school of thought is that as long as you can keep your child comfortable rear facing you should do so even if you surpass this requirement. This waiting time allows for the strengthening of their bones and muscles, particularly in the neck. Using a forward facing seat too soon puts your child at serious risk of injury or even death should a vehicle collision occur.

How do you use a baby car seat? PROPERLY!! How do you do this? Baby car seats are tested and tested again to ensure maximum safety for your child. This safety is only assured if you, the purchaser, use this seat properly right from installation to latching up your child each time. You must be certain that the car seat fits well in your vehicle. This includes making sure that neither the seat nor baby's head is not on too much of a slant. Get it Done Professionally

When installed and used properly the baby car seat will work to the best of its ability to keep your baby comfortable, secure and, above all else, safe. Baby car seats work with the vehicle seat belts and the seats to restrain the child in place.

A regular seat belt is not capable of keeping a small baby or child restrained upon impact. Their bodies are much too little. The car seat is equipped to hold them securely within the harness, while the vehicle seat belt tightly restrains the car seat as a whole. Your baby car seat will come with a number of features and options, all of which you should be aware of and be certain that you want. Some of your choices will include the type of harness, be it six point, five point, or three point. These work by restraining the child in that many places.

For example, a three point harness restrains the child at both shoulders and once between the legs. Your car seat may or may not come with a detachable base (this is for infant carriers), a head rest, adjustable handles (again, infant seats), drink holders, and many more options. A car seat works best if it meets your particular needs so know beforehand what your needs are so you can find exactly what you are looking for.

You can receive advice on installation from the manufacturer and can in fact even have your installation checked for safety. Online, you can find a number of locations to drive to with your car seat and they will tell you if your car seat is securely, safely and properly installed. Be sure as well that once a Child is in a rear or front facer that you adjust the head rest to accommodate their growth spurts. As well, be certain that restraints are secure and you can get now more than a finger between the restraint and baby. If it has too much room baby may not be secure.

Having a baby is a big step in your life. You will want to feel prepared and know that you are doing all you can to keep baby safe. If nothing else, remember these few things: car seats come with instructions- read them! Don't borrow or buy a seat you don't know the history of but if you do borrow or buy a second hand seat check for any defects, double check your installation and be prepared to make adjustments to the harness as Kid grows, contact a professional (websites can give contact numbers and people) if you have any uncertainties. Your local health department can also help you make sure that baby is resting safely and comfortably in the seat.

By following the simple rules of car seat installation and use, just as you would follow the Canadian "rules of the road", you are doing your best to keep your most precious cargo safe. A child passenger safety technician is within a phone call if you need more questions answered. Look online at consumer or government websites for more information. Stay safe.

Why Hampers Are Ideal For All Occasion

By Hugh Roberts

Hampers are gifts that are traditionally presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long history in the Western world and, before, was done as a giving gesture, using the hamper to present food and other home necessities to the deserving. The basket the hamper was displayed in was also carefully chosen as it was a handy household item that could be utilized.

In recent times, hampers have come to be less a gift of essentials and more a gift of little indulgences, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on the finest products such as gourmet jams, fine chocolates, exotic coffee beans, expensive wines and other quality products that can be had as a indulgence and will store long enough for your special someone to relax when using the item.

There has also been a growing tendency to sell specialized hampers - wine hampers that are filled with a diverse range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more new development and are filled not with food but with essential and desired items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only restricted by your imagination!

The versatility of wine hampers is why it makes such a perfect present. They can be adapted to any special someone and can be packed with whatever would give pleasure to your special someone. When picking the hamper you want to give, give careful attention to what things your special someone wants - are they a wine connoisseur? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a gourmet? Then fill the hamper with gourmet food products. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with useful baby goods.

UK hampers can be given for any occasion - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Christmas.

The Christmas hamper has become popular and, in an intriguing twist, people are buying Christmas hampers to use for themselves instead of as a present for that special someone. Often packed with luxury Christmas luxuries such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Christmas pudding and even turkey, they are bought by everyone to be used over the Xmas period. Many wine hampers are bought on a payment scheme over the year and then enjoyed for the Xmas period, helping individuals afford the expense of the wonderful Christmas luxuries needed over the holiday season.

There are lots of companies that concentrate in supplying hamper presents and most of them can be found quickly and easily on the world wide web. Many of them will have pre-packed hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may let you to modify a hamper and fill it with products of your choice. Most companies will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and welcomed present.

Of course, you don't have to use a professional to create a wonderful hamper and it can be even more personal to create your own. When making a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Focus on helpful products and luxury goods that your special someone may not know to purchase for themselves, to make it even more considerate. Hampers also work best when packed with products that won't spoil easily, such as wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on filling in products that need to be refrigerated or won't last long, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure your special someone understands that the products must be used as soon as possible.

Cheap High Street Hair Care Products a False Economy?

By Jennifer Summers

Looking after your hair is a top priority if you pride yourself on having clean and healthy looking hair, and using quality hair care products (i.e. shampoo and conditioner) is a must. However, when it comes to getting the best value for money should you buy professional salon hair care products, or would cheap high street hair care products be just as good?

Comparing hair care products on cost alone, high street hair products may seem cheaper and a better buy, giving the impression of providing more value because of their low cost. Professional salon products on the other hand may seem expensive with a typical 300ml bottle priced around $20/GBP10, 5 times the price of the average high street hair products at an average cost of $4/GBP2.

Comparing these prices it seems as if the high street products are better value at about a fifth of the price of salon professional hair care products, giving the impression that they are much better value for money, because you would be getting 5 times the amount of product as you would compared with professional salon hair products.

But when you look into this further, and take into consideration the quality and the effectiveness of the different hair care products, do the figures actually stack up in favour of the cheaper products, or are cheap high street hair care products a false economy? Let's find out?

To see if cheaper high street hair products provide more value for money in both the short and long term when compared with professional salon hair care products, we made the decision to test them both to see how each of the hair products compare against one another in a quality test.

We tested a 300ml bottle of shampoo from the high street and a 300ml salon professional shampoo. With the high street product a 50ml application is standard to clean hair where with the professional product a 10ml application was all that was required to clean the hair to the same standard.

The high street hair shampoo, using a 50ml application, provides 6 applications per 300ml bottle (approximately). The professional shampoo, using a 10ml application, provides around 30 applications per 300ml. Hence the high street shampoo worked out at $0.64c/GBP0.32p whilst the professional shampoo came in at $0.66c/GBP0.33p.

Conclusion: although cheap hair care products initially seem a better deal and provide more value, in reality there is virtually no difference in price when it comes to the economics of professional salon hair care products. And? when you include the much higher quality, the greater effectiveness and visual results, and the deeper and more thorough cleansing and conditioning of salon hair care products, buying cheaper high street hair products in favour of salon hair products is a complete false economy.
