So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Celtic Wedding Bands: Why Couples Choose Them

By Liam Grant

Couples who have dated and then become engaged have many decisions to make at that moment in their lives. What are their goals? How will they be able to afford a home and a life together? Do they want children? How many? Traditionally, little girls have planned their weddings many years in advance. Together as a couple makes determinations about their new life together, they will choose which wedding ring will best symbolize their union. Celtic wedding bands are chosen by couples because of their beauty, what the art itself means, and because they are classic.

Couples choose Celtic rings often based upon their unique beauty alone. Uniform loops, knots, and tridents are often found in Celtic design. Although they are generally created by simple lines, they often can become quite complex and ornate. Recently, whimsical lines and interlinking hearts have been included in some Celtic art. Unlike some designs, these ones can be studied for a time without becoming old and boring.

There are also couples who choose Celtic wedding bands to symbolize their heritage. The Celtic people at one point inhabited many parts of Europe. They weren't so much a nation as they were a series of tribes that spoke related languages. There were Celts at one point in Italy, Germany, Spain, France, as well as Britain and Ireland. Those couples who have family roots that stretch to the old world, often choose Celtic wedding rings to honor where they come from. Other couples choose Celtic rings for the culture they represent. There are many people who feel Celtic art connects them to countries with strong Celtic heritage such as Ireland and England.

Celtic designs are popular with couples because they have lasting value. This value comes from having withstood the test of centuries of time. Celtic wedding bands insure that couples will not feel their rings are outdated. As the marriage they are entering into, their rings should also be viewed as long term.

While the choice of a wedding ring does not indicate how the marriage will work, it does say a lot about the common ground a couple has. Wedding rings represent the beauty of today and the hope of tomorrow. Couples represent through their rings what excites them. When a couple shares interest in music, art, and culture, they are likely to grow together in the years ahead.

Globally, artists the world over continue to look to Celtic art to express themselves today. Simple lines creating such beautiful and intricate designs is one reason couples choose Celtic wedding bands. Another reason is for the historic value and link they provide. Additionally, having already withstood the test of time, Celtic rings will remain beautiful for years and years.

Personalized Rings - Great Holiday Gifts

By Amy Carrington

Ever since the dawn of jewelry, people have been figuring out how to make it more personal. Birth stones, favorite colors, and sentimental engravings inside have provided the industry with a multitude of choices to provide personalized rings for just about any occasion. Jewelry of all types has been a traditional gift for birthdays and holidays, but this year personalized rings are making a big comeback.

Couples getting married frequently have their wedding bands engraved with initials and wedding date and loving sentiments of the moment. These rings can be elaborately decorated with precious gems and hand scrolling, or they can be simple bands with plain text on the inside.

It is said that the mother of Pope John Paul II gave him a ring that had the entire Lord's Prayer printed on it. And it there is a popular Hollywood legend that Playboy founder Hugh Heffner had a ring specially made with the measurements of his favored Bunnies over the years.

Rings can pretty much be engraved and personalized without limitations except in certain cases the amount of text may not have adequate room. Of course you could always hire the same craftsmen used by the Pope's mom!

One of the new trends is a new engraving kiosk now popping up in some malls. You can buy a ring there and then have it engraved right away using a typing mechanism attached to the robotic machine. You can choose the type, font, and create your wording. This is similar to buying and designing a dog tag for your pet at the local pet store.

Certain metals are more malleable than others and gold is one that tends to not hold engravings forever. It is soft, and it wears out with constant wear. Choose a more durable metal such as the now popular stainless steel.

Some other materials that can be engraved and can be expected to withstand some heavy use are jade or coral, and even wood.

Making Distance In The Small Landscape

By Marshall Clewis

The sense of distance in the landscape used to be created by walking from place to place in the garden. In small gardens we get the whole effect sitting on the patio.

Here a sense of distance is achieved by using low, angular designs of green ground-covers or masses of color from spring bulbs or annual bedding plants. Using plants with coarse foliage close at hand and others with progressively finer foliage beyond them also gives an illusion of distance.

The old practices of clipping' hedges in rectangular forms and planting mop-headed trees are returning. The flat surfaces and smooth texture of closely clipped foliage match the rectangular wall areas, and the pleached trees provide shade where we sit.

Many of the modern ideas came from California and do not fit our climate and living conditions. We cannot use our gardens in winter if you live up north, so do not need a separate set of shade trees to take care of the different angle of shadows during winter. We can grow good turf, so do not need to substitute such broad areas of mosaic paving or redwood plank. What we need is not to copy but to develop a style that fits our buildings, our climate and our customs.

We need evergreen hedges because they clip well and relieve the monotony of winter white. We need to use a variety of small, flowering trees and shrubs like the North Carolina's flowering trees. We should learn to use ground covers on banks and in other areas where grass is difficult to cut; these also match our low houses. We need enough color for cheer, but not the garish' confusion of color that causes strain. We need the grace and relaxation of nature ordered to fit our small properties, just as the Persians did.

The qualities that make for good design do not change so long as we stick to the sound principle of meeting our needs. The change in our social structure has made it possible for more people to live in greater comfort; this, in turn, has changed the function to which we can put the land at our disposal.

Which Type of Ladies Watch Should I Get?

By Jacqueline London

Prior to the invention of wrist watches, ladies would wear their watches as pendants around their necks. This evolved into the pocket watch, which women would hide in their waist bands or skirt seams. Sometimes they would wear them as brooches or pins, or earrings, and sometimes even rings.

Today, ladies watches change with the styles and fashions. Sometimes they change every year, which can make it hard for women to have one simple watch and wear it all the time. Still, it is good to have a collection. In order to do that, you must have watches from all three categories: sports, dress and jewelry. It is possible to buy all three from one company, but a denser collection will contain watches from many different brands.

Sports Sports watches are for active women. There is no limit to how extremity your activity can be. Whether it is high-adrenaline like rock climbing or cliff diving, or conventional like running or Pilates, a sports watch is for you. A high-performance waterproof watch with preferably a stopwatch is ideal. Sports models are made of leather, rubber, steel, or titanium and also have sleeker, thinner straps.

Dress Dress watches are also something to think about getting. Dressy watches can be for any woman no matter who, because they simply ooze elegance. As long as there is no Velcro, rubber straps, over-sized parts, or huge markings on it, it qualifies to be in this category. These watches can be worn in formal events or casual occasions.

Jewelry Bejeweled watches are in the final category. These ladies watches took long periods of time to be created. They are embellished with stones and precious gems, and are matched according to color and clarity before being set in the watch.

The history of ladies watches is and interesting one. They have changed over time from pendants to pocket watches to the small sleek watches we have today. Remember to choose a watch that you?re comfortable in. And if you have to pick only one watch, make sure it crosses over between the three categories above.

Hairspray and Opera Glasses: A Musical Play Review

By Jeff Bridges

Hairspray the musical is set in Baltimore, Maryland the year is 1962. Our hero in the musical is is a young overweight girl named Tracy. Tracy has always dreamed of becoming a big star, if and when you attend this musical, make sure you have a front row seat, if you don't you will want to be sure to bring your opera glasses, so as not to miss a moment of this fast-paced play.

As Tracy is watching television one day, she hears that a popular show is going to sponsor a dance contest. Tracy knows that is is her long dreamed of shot at fame. When her overweight mother finds out about her plans, she discourages the idea for two reasons, one is that she worries that people will make fun of her sweet but overweight daughter, and the other is that she thinks the show plays racist music.

With the good grace of her father Wilbur, Tracy finally gets permission to go on to the dance audition. During the audition, she meets with, and falls in love with a boy name Link Larkin. As the author I recommend, preparing for this moment, by making sure that you are using your opera glasses! You will surely want to catch the expression on Tracy's face as you see her fall hopelessly in love with Link. At this point, Tracy begins a beautiful song about love, and her dream of being with Link. Tracy is rudely awakened from her daydream, only to find out that due to her weight, she did not make the cut for the dance competition. Just as her mother suspected would happen from the beginning.

Broken hearted Tracy returns to school, but her troubles do not end there, almost immediately Tracy if given detention, due to her hair being so large, that those who sat behind her, could not even see past her! For this reason, the musical Hairspray, is given its name.

While Tracy is in detention, she meets a nice black boy named Seaweed who is kind enough to teach Tracy some dance steps and hot moves. There is a dance party scheduled for the school and the owner of the Corny Collins Show, Corny Collins himself, sees Tracy's slick moves. He loves how she dances and lo and behold she is chosen to be a dancer on his popular show. This moment will be the perfect time to put on your opera glasses as of course Tracy is ecstatic as this is her big dream!

Tracy again finds herself as the recipient of good news, she finds out that the lovable hunk Link Larkin will be singing a romantic song to her on T.V! Another character on the show is Amber a snobby cruel girl, who also happens to be in love with Link, finds out about Tracy's fortune, and decides to make Tracy's life a living hell, full of harassment.

More things ensue. Tracy and others are invited to Seaweed's mother's record shop. A party is planned for all to attend. The group goes to Seaweed's mother's record shop as blacks cannot go to The Corny Collins Show since blacks are only allowed on the show once a month on a specific day; that day being Negro Day. Tracy gets into fighting for blacks rights. For these intense acts you will want to wear your opera glasses.

Hairspray is a delight to attend, and a bigger delight to hear, it is no wonder it made such a run on Broadway, Remember to bring your opera glasses to catch every last expression, and the wonderful costumes. This is truly a performance to cherish.

Celebrating Halloween

By Russ D. Edwards

Some forges are overly protective and they do not want to let their kids go trick or treating. If you're one of those oldsters, you have to find some other methods to make them have a good time and here are a few options.

The first is make contact with your local community or recreation center to find out if they have any planned activities for Halloween. They may have a costume party or a night filled with games for everybody to enjoy.

For those who do not need their kids to go trick or treating in the streets, their youngsters can still do this by going to the mall. The reason is because some shopping malls encourage their tenants to provide candies and other goodies for shoppers. There are also costume parades and contests that the youngsters will love to watch and maybe win a few prizes.

If you live in a small town, probabilities are there's an activity for the evening like maybe a dance or a performance.

You can also go with your children and visit a haunted house. This event is usually subsidized by the local people to generate funding and what they do is hire a house for the evening, decorate the place and scare people all in the meaning of fun.

For people who do not want to go out and just stay at home, let the people come instead by hosting a Halloween party. You can plan it weeks ahead so you have some time to buy the decorations, stock up on food and send out the invitations.

You and yours children can then spend special time together by putting the door up like hang fake spider webs through the entry way after cutting them out using black construction paper, put out tombstones made of plastic that may be made or purchased from craft stores and naturally pumpkins which you can carve out yourself.

As for sounds, you can download some songs as we all sound effects into you MP3 player then just put speakers round the house. To form a misty atmosphere when people approach your house, buy some dry ice.

The sole way your guests will have an excellent time is to make sure there's a lot of food and drinks to go round. So they don't bored, plan a few fun and games that everyone can participate in. One game you would love is apple bobbing where you put some apples in the bathtub or basin and then let the participators pick it up using their teeth.

As for dinner, serve spaghetti that look like eyeballs, tomato soup and a few other dishes that are ideal for the occasion.

Since there will be youngsters attending the party, make sure there are games for them also. One game could be pinning the skeleton which is similar to pin the donkey. You can also bake caramel apples so that the youngsters can just grab them when they need another one.

Because youngsters love candy, be sure that there are tons of them around. Do not forget to thank everyone for coming by preparing loot bags that they can bring home.

Planning and hosting a Halloween party takes a lot of work but its all worth it if everybody was ready to have a fun time. The one thing to do now when the party is over is clean up and return things to the way they were.
