So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Popular Special Effects Lenses

By Amy Nutt

Colored Contacts Without a doubt, the most popular theatrical lenses are also the simplest. These contacts just change the color of your eyes and are tremendously popular among young people in particular who enjoy testing new eye colors.

These colored contacts tend to work best with light colored eyes (blue, grey, green, etc.) but there are also versions created specifically for darker eyes that need more pigment. You can use common eye colors, like blue or green or you can try something a little creepier, perhaps red or yellow. A fun way to use colored lenses is to wear just one at a time, leaving the other eye natural.

Evil Eyes If you want something a little more sinister than just the eye color change, look for lenses that change the shape of your pupil. This can be a fun way to amp up the fear factor. These types of contacts come with vertical slit pupils, like a cat eye. You can usually buy them in a variety of colors, with red and yellow being the most common. These lenses need to be put in just so, however, to ensure that the pupil is facing the right way.

Party On If you hit the dance floor on a regular basis, then black light eyes are a must have. They glow in the black light and create a very interesting effect for parties and raves. These are still fairly new, but already extremely popular and in demand.

Movie Effects With movies like Twilight being so popular, vampire contacts and wolf lenses are all the rage. Vampire contacts are usually red, but allow for the pupil in the center, while a wolf eye is animal like and brown with streaks. These aren`t the only movie effect lenses you can get, though. Look for your favorite horror movie brought to life in your eyes with contacts that mimic the effects from movies like Hellraiser, Tempest and Jeepers Creepers.

There are plenty of options to turn you into the monster of your dreams.

White While these could technically be labeled as colored lenses, the fact is that white contact lenses actually cover up any existing color and make your eyes a fun white color, essentially eliminating the color. This type of contact lens is particularly popular if you are into zombies and want the blank, undead look.

Pictures While not quite as common as colored contact lenses, these fun lenses are found everywhere just the same. They come with images of everything from spiders, roaches or skulls on them to flowers, smiley faces and swirls; you just can't get that look with glasses.

Having a picture in your eye can be a fun way to grab people`s attention and the variety of images available means that each person can choose the style that suits their personality.

Special effects contact lenses can be a fun way to change your look . . . subtly or in a rather obvious manner. They are also ideal for costume parties and Halloween when you need those special vampire eyes. The price tag can be a little high, especially if you are going for handpainted, so keep that in mind when buying for a special occasion.

These lenses aren`t meant for long term use usually, so you`ll need to take them out and clean them as you would with regular contacts before using again. With proper care, specialty lenses can last up to 4-5 months.

The Art of Making Jerky

By Raymond Felter

Folks have sought after new and revolutionary ways to consume and enjoy meat for as long as we have been around. A very common format in which people love to eat meat as a snack is by making it into a jerky. Jerky is most commonly made with beef and it helps to preserve the meat and its flavor far better than any other method. Jerky is a good source of protein and it is more healthy as the fat is removed before the meat is made into jerky.

You can make your own healthy version of jerky right in your own home and you can be sure that it is much healthier than those found in stores as you can stay away from all of the preservatives making it right in your kitchen. The preservatives that manufacturers put in to keep the meat fresher longer are chemicals that are not necessary when making your own.

The first thing that you want to do when making your own jerky is to buy the right meat. You want to go with a lean cut of meat such as top round, sirloin, or even eye round to name a few good meat choices. When you go with these kinds of meats, you will save a lot of time during the drying step.

Once you have your meat you will need to slice it into very thin slices approximately 1/8" thick. You may even want to check with your butcher at your local meat market as they may slice the meat like this for you. Try to cut the strips against the grain so that the jerky will be much easier to chew. Be sure to trim off as much fat as possible because the fat will not dry and can ruin the jerky.

Next, you will want to marinade the meat in your flavor of choice where seasonings are concerned. Many people like to go with a mixture of sea salt and cider vinegar and leave it sit in the refrigerator soaking over night for best flavor results. Remember that the more you marinate, the more time it will take to dry. You can use whatever seasonings you prefer as a meat coating. Some popular ones are cracked pepper, garlic, and brown sugar. Now you can dehydrate the meat.

You want to be sure that you allow enough space between each piece for proper drying. It is best to use a dehydrating machine and make it a rule of thumb to spray the racks in the dehydrator with some sort of non-stick spray prior to putting the meat on the rack. If you are going to use your oven for making the jerky then you will want to set the over at 150 degrees but make sure that you let the over preheat. You can put the meat right on the rack with a cookie sheet underneath it. The heat is not to cook the meat but dry it out nicely.

Once you have the meat slices, marinated and seasoned, put them either in the oven or the dehydrator and now you wait. This is a slow process but well worth the wait. The whole process can take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. You will want to watch the meat and take it out when it is done to your liking. Be sure to test a piece to see if it is dried all the way through. You want to be a deep burgundy or brown color.

You can store your fresh jerky in plastic zip lock bags and keep it in the refrigerator or the freezer. It will keep for 1 week in the refrigerator. After you have gotten the hang of making your own jerky, you will probably want to make it regularly. Never forget that it makes a wonderful present for family and friends, especially at the holidays.

Start Your Story With Writing a Killer Intro.

By Kemp Darby

When it comes to writing an intro, what comes to mind is writing a small introductory passage. However, this is not all that's to it. What you need to do to engage reader interest is to bring out your story in the right way. In order to do this, you need to encapsulate the spirit of the entire story and bring it out through an example. When you do this you have to be careful because capturing the story essence alone is not enough, you need to grasp the main point of the story, else the purpose of the story is lost.

If you're going to start writing, make sure it's short intro. When readers see a headline they expect the writing below it to contain content which relates to that headline. There's only so much time a reader will spend with an intro about sports when the headline suggested the article was about vacations.

Okay, so you have completed the intro and this intro captures the essence of the story in every sense. However, before you consider this as your final copy, you have to check if the intro is really short enough, so that the reader won't lose patience till the content comes to the point you are bringing across?

In this piece above, you can see that the intro is pretty short. This is the kind of intro that works with the audience because the reader is aware of what they are reading and absorbing it fully. The reader knows what the article is about in a broad sense and therefore they know what to expect inside the story.

In short, if you give an introduction that is really long, but which has not connection to the headline, you could be putting down your story like nothing else and this really spoils a good story.

Another point is when you use anecdotes. You should let your reader know before-hand how your anecdote relates to your topic before you tell it to them, else the reader will leave out your topic, even before you begin to elaborate your point.

In short, what is necessary is using less words in bring out a perfect story essence. The aim of an introduction is to out forth your subject in a broader and more general sense.

If you want to do this right, you have to think about your intro in a broader sense and include those details which bring this out and leave out those that don't. So, if you have extra details such as dates, names, descriptions and diversions but which are not really necessary for the essence of the anecdote, do not mention them as they will only distract the reader.

Look into my site mentioned in the Author field to find out more details about how to write a impressive introduction and also about my inspiration for writing this article.

Writing an introductory passage with utmost concern is highly important to get a good introductory passage. This is important because this is the lead to the story at hand. So, it's important to consider your story in a broader sense and only bring in those details which bring this out and leave out those that don't.

Motorcycle Club Mentality Versus The Biker Gang Mentality

By LJ James

I want to talk a little about the Brotherhood mentality versus the gang mentality in the Motorcycle Club world . Now for those of you who may be asking what is the difference? I will set up a scene to help give you an idea! At a small Bar a member of a Motorcycle Club walks in he sees four Bikers playing pool, He can tell they are a bit nervous, They see his patches and they know who he is with. Now how does he act? Does he walk over to the pool table knock the 8 ball in the pocket say games over and tell one of them to buy him a beer? Or does he walk over introduce himself and let them know when they are done shooting pool they are welcome to stop over at the bar have a beer and talk with him! One is the gang way of thinking the other is the Brotherhood way of thinking! I really don't think I need to tell you which is which!

Now one thing everyone needs to remember is all of the original Motorcycle Clubs Started out with the idea of being a tight nit group of Brothers and just about all of these Motorcycle Clubs got along. Don't forget many of the men who started the first MCs where returning home after serving their country during times of war. They were looking for that feeling of Brotherhood here at home that they had been left behind. These were good men seeking adventure, looking to ride their Motorcycles and have a good time with others like themselves. Today most Motorcycle Clubs have gone back to that way of Club thinking, There are very few Clubs left that still have the Gang Mentality that was seen mostly during the 70's threw 90's. During the late 90's things had just gotten too far out of hand and most Motorcycle Clubs began to realize the Gang Mentality was not the way it was meant to be and it was not the way they wanted it to be anymore, This was not what the Clubs were started for ! Many Clubs who had been friends were now fighting with each other. No one wanted to wear club support gear and things were just not fun anymore. These MC's had all started their Clubs with the same ideals and ways of thinking, How and why had they grown so far apart that they now hated each other!

Well the answer to how is during the 50's and 60's the golden age of the Brotherhood years of Motorcycling, The Motorcycle Clubs were really huge. During this great time many of the Biker Movies that came out showed Motorcycle Club Members as Bullies and Thugs. The Bikers in these movies would pick on those weaker then them, take over small towns and the Clubs in these Movies all fought each other just like the street gangs of the time! So of course over time many new Bikers came to believe that this was the way it was. So when New Clubs started this was how they would act and the Original Motorcycle Clubs now had members who where young kids looking to prove how tough they were by starting fights with each other. The Original Motorcycle Club Members had been threw real wars together and they were as hard as nails and had nothing to prove to no one! But many younger members felt that they had something to prove and would imitate the Biker Clubs from the Movies they had scene and soon it was Biker against Biker, Brother against Brother, MC against MC. Thus began the Dark age of the Motorcycle Gang Mentality years.

Now for the question Why did this Happen? Well When something Changes the way of thinking and being of Groups like the Motorcycle Clubs so far from their original ideals, You have to ask was it just an accident these movies did this? Or was there more to it? Was there a plan behind it? Is there someone or some group out there that would benefit from having these large groups of Motorcycle Clubs who are run in a very military fashion and are made up of many ex-Military Members fighting against each other? If these Clubs all got along and worked together the world could be a very Different place! The Motorcycle world certainly would be! Are there people out there who are afraid of this happening?

Today there are very few Clubs left that have the Gang Mentality. Most have gone back to the Brotherhood way and the word Gang in the Motorcycle Club world has become almost the equivalent of a racial slur. Now as Motorcycle Clubs are beginning to go back to the way it was at the start and trying to put the past behind them, I am noticing that there are more and more Biker movies and TV shows Coming out. Will these shows show MC's in a good way? Will they go out of their way to stir up the quarrels of the past? Will they show us as mindless Bullies much as the Movie Wild Hogs did? Most Important will we let them influence how we really are? Or have we learned from our past? If all continues to go well we could soon be making our way into the Second Golden age of Motorcycle Club Brotherhood back to where it all Started !!!

All Bikers need to ask themselves, Are you part of the Problem or part of the Solution?

Vitamin E As A Supplement

By Alison Addy

Vitamin E as an Antioxidant

Vitamin E is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant in helping to eliminate free radicals that will damage and impair our immune system. Free radicals are highly reactive chemicals that attack molecules in our body while they're destroying electron, which results in the chemical structures in our body being modified. Vitamin E is also very effective in protecting our skin from the damage it can get from ultraviolet rays from spending too much time in the sun. This is the main reason why so may skin care products are made with Vitamin E.

Sources of Vitamin E

Vitamin E has many other benefits for our body. It can help your bladder as well as help against developing prostate cancer and heart disease. Doctors are also linking Vitamin E with being able to slow down the process of Alzheimer's disease. Vitamin E is very easy to find as it is in almost all leafy vegetables like spinach, kale, lettuces. Vitamin E is also in fish, nuts whole grains, wheat germs and many different vegetable oils. Most of us consume a certain amount of Vitamin in on a daily basis without realizing it just by the foods we consume. It's important to remember, however, that just because we are consuming them daily doesn't mean we're getting the recommended dosage.

Vitamin E as a Supplement

Vitamin E can be taken as a supplement in pill form or as a liquid, although this should not be taken without the advice of your doctor first. It's important with any kind of vitamin that you follow the recommended dietary allowances (RDA), which are usually right on the back of the bottle. Your doctor may also have his own recommended amount for you based on your health, age and sex. What's the right dosage for one person may not be right for someone else.

Vitamin E is not very toxic so, fortunately, you see very few cases of overdosing with Vitamin E from the foods you eat. However, if you were taking Vitamin E supplements and took more than 3,000 IU, you could cause toxicity, which would result in certain symptoms such as diarrhea, intestinal cramps, double vision, muscle weakness and fatigue.

Before taking any vitamin supplements, it's important to make sure they don't contradict with any other vitamins or medications you're taking. For instance, Vitamin E tends to deplete the supply of Vitamin you may be taking, which can interfere with blood clotting. For this reason, they recommend you keep the maximum dose of Vitamin E to 1,000 IU per day. In addition, Vitamin E should be taken with Vitamin C, B3, selenium and glutathione so Vitamin E will remain active. For these reasons, it may be best to take a multivitamin that has all the required supplements in one pill.

Coffee Beans

By Marc Warren

For a tree grown in over 70 countries, from Indonesia to Brazil, it's curious how narrow a range of conditions is required to produce quality 'beans' and how relatively small the total output is.

The fruit that comes from this tree is not what is actually used to make coffee. The beans are found in the middle of the fruit. Really, then, though we call it a bean it is in actuality the seed of the fruit.

There are usually 2 seeds inside each fruit. That is the case with most types of this tree with the exception of the peaberry. The seeds are surrounded by a somewhat slimy white substance which is the meat of the fruit. All this from a tree that can grow to between 20 and 50 feet tall.

For a coffee tree to really grow, thrive and produce well requires warm temperatures, 60F to 70F, and water. The tree will produce better in an area that gets frequent rains. That is why the countries closest to the equator line are ideal.

High altitudes of course means less oxygen in the air and this is also a condition in which the coffee tree thrives. The steamy air that is produced by the hot climates and rainy most weather put these trees in the sauna like condition that they love and thrive in.

The robusta, or coffea canephora, goes into making the majority of coffee because it can be grown at lower altitudes and is more disease resistant. But it's the high-altitude coffea arabica that forms the base of a gourmet cup.

Some fruit trees thrive on intense sun. Coffee trees do not fall in this category. Providing shade and shelter for them helps protect the trees from windy conditions and filters the suns rays allowing the tree to grow and produce at its best.

The process from reaping from your tree is a long one. From its beginning to the point where the tree will produce fruit is a period of about 5 years. Once it begins to produce you will only get about 2 pounds of coffee from each tree.

There is nothing easy or mindless about the harvesting of coffee beans. Everything is done by hand and it takes a keen eye and knowledge of what you're doing to separate the good beans from the bad. From one tree you can harvest about 2000 beans, and it is a tedious task.

LJ's Thoughts On The FX Show "Son's Of Anarchy"

By LJ James

I have just finished watching the second episode of the new FX show "Son's of Anarchy". I have been a fan of the FX Show "The Shield" for years and I have to say, I have enjoyed "Sons of Anarchy" so far. The show has cool bikes and lots of action!

As a Member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Club, I have already seen many mistakes in the show. One thing that's really surprising to me is how people have reacted to the show and me personally. People who know I'm a member of a Motorcycle Club are asking me, "You guys aren't like that, are you?" Some of these people have known me for years! Now after a couple of episodes of "Sons of Anarchy" their wondering if I'm leading some kind of double life.

Can you imagine if a show about criminal killer Florists came out? How many people would ask the local florist if they where really like that? One fact of life about being a Biker I have come to except is, it's real easy for people to think of Bikers as the bad guys. It has always been and probably always will be that way. I wonder how many Cops had people ask them the same question when the Shield came out? I also wonder how many Police Officers who watch the Shield and know that show is fiction will watch "Sons of Anarchy" and think that's how Motorcycle Clubs really are! The FX show "Sons of Anarchy" is fiction and it is way over the top.

Son's of Anarchy is going to shine a lot of light onto the Motorcycle Club world. Where as the last 10 years have been all about Motorcycle Builders and has led to a lot of people getting into Motorcycle Riding, I believe the next 10 years will be all about Motorcycle Clubs. Now this show could be a good thing for Motorcycle Clubs if, in-between all the fictional action, it also focuses on the bond of Brotherhood Motorcycle Clubs are based on.

Although there is opportunity for "Sons of Anarchy" to make a positive statement about Motorcycle Clubs, I have a feeling the show will have a negative impact on Clubs, Independent Bikers, and the Motorcycle Community in general. All they would have to do is highlight the good stuff Motorcycle Clubs do and the positive impact that they have on their communities, I don't think that is the way the program will go.

All Motorcycle Clubs are going to need to keep their eyes wide open and watch any new prospects. MCs need to make sure that new prospects are there for the Brotherhood and betterment of the Club and the community, not to live out some misguided fantasy they may have seen on TV or in some Movie. Another big concern of mine is people who will just go out and throw on a set of patches and think they are the "Sons of Anarchy". The Motorcycle Club world is all about Respect and there is a serious protocol that is followed by all Clubs. I would not recommend violating that protocol in any way.

Motorcycle Clubs have spent the better part of the past 20 years working hard to shake the old biker gang stereotype of the 60's and 70's. Now that we have come close to accomplishing our goal, shows like "Sons of Anarchy" and the upcoming HBO show 1% are here to drag our image back into the gang world. How far will these shows set us back? 20-30 Years? I would ask the producers of these shows, there sponsors, and everyone else out there to please remember that Brotherhood is what the Motorcycle Club world is truly about.
