Outside in 100 degree heat, it doesnt make much of a dent if not right AT your face, but on a beach vacation, or at a sporting event it's perfect to hold and keep you much cooler. Just bring the little bottle for refills!
So if you looking to buy this do not expect too much for this as any cheap fan will more than likely do a better job than this. This also happens to be the loudest fan Ive ever heard and cannot even imagine myself having to endure the noise when in use.
After about three months it stopped working apparently the connection to the motor wasn't very good. I called the USA office and asked for a replacement and in just a couple days I had one shipped out and I only had to pay for shipping. They arrived in the mail in great condition in a timely manner, but using them is a headache. First you have to wash the sponges, and then you have to measure out the exact amount of water. No other fan cools the air down like this one. My mother in law borrowed it to help with hot flashes she gets due to medication. Ordered two of these since my family was traveling where temperatures were going to average 95 degrees. One of the units did not work upon receipt, but the seller quickly sent a replacement ASAP within 24 hours, just in time for the trip!
Air won't reach you. You have to hold it up to your face to feel anything.
Temperatures have gotten surprisingly hot so early this year. The Handy Cooler cools you down quite well and is easy to use. I've tried taking the sponge out and changing the power source but it's still broken. This fan has no power - if I hold it right up to my face, I can feel air. I am angry that I paid $100 and they do not work any better than an item I could have purchased at the dollar store, but had they worked the money would not have been an issue. I will warn those of you purchasing this product to strongly reconsider, but if you choose to go ahead and purchase, only purchase ONE at a time.
It requires 4 AA batteries, which took most of its weight, or USB powered (cable provided). The product also comes with a small water bottle used to moist the filter.
The only thing I could ask for is a longer USB cable. Summer has been on the cooler side so far but the hottest month is still to come so I expect to give the fan a real workout. The highest speed blows a perfect amount of air on the hottest days and it gives out a low, droning buzz. In fact, the buzz on my laptop is even louder than this fan so it is never considered a distraction when I am working.
After using it on and off for about two weeks it started rattling which is very annoying. When used outside it just doesn't produce enough air to make much difference. The whirring noise level isn't bad but hardly discrete either. The $50 price is definitely too high for a product like this.
