When riding a motorcycle or even a bike, it is necessary to angle the position of the one driving into a comfortable posture. This is possible to obtain once the bagger handlebars are adjusted high enough. Positioning the handlebars too low that it should be may cause discomfort when riding the bike. There is nothing to worry about though because there is an easy way of adjusting it as long as a rider is guided on what are the steps that needs to be done.
Before jumping into the action, determine first whether the type of handlebars on bike that is owned is thread or threaded because these two do not have the same of adjusting procedure. A thread less type has spacers located on top and lower parts of handlebar stem. If there is nothing like that found then basically it is the other type.
Anyway, loosen up the screws at the back of handlebars. These screws are located on the back part and are often referred to as pinch bolts. An Allen wrench or a hex key that can fit on screws may be used to remove them all. Once everything are unscrewed, remove the top cap.
Insert neither wrench nor hex key into the bolt at the top then turn it, so that in a counterclockwise motion. Once that is successfully removed, it is time to have the spacers slide off then set it aside along with the bolts. Remove the handlebars off the bike then set it aside too.
Start adding spacers on stem of owned bicycle to give the longer position which is wanted. When the comfortable height has been added enough, proceed with installation of everything to the way it was before being dismantled. Tighten the screws in ways wherein it will not cause any trouble when riding the bike.
For the threaded types, its handlebar has long stems that usually fits into the frame of bikes. Instead of spacers, this one has screws attached on its backside. It can also be possible that plastic rings are on top as well as bottom of the handlebar stem.
Then measure the distance between the top of stem until the bike frame. Take note of exact measurement and set that aside. This will help the rider in reverting back the old positioning once the adjustment done was not successful or does not feel comfortable at all.
Right after that, proceed to unscrewing of the top bolts using a wrench. The direction should be of counterclockwise motion for like four or five turns till it loosen. This can then be moved whether up or probably down depending on the height of handlebars desired.
Just make sure that when adjusting its height, it does not go beyond the marking that serves as guide on how high the handlebar should go. Raising it way beyond that would mean danger when riding the bicycle. Once the exact position desired is already achieved then go ahead and finish it through keeping it straight while tightening it on its top screw.
