So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Invest In A Walk In Bath Tub

By Casey Madisson

Options in choosing a new bath tub or replacing an old one are simply countless. There are several variations when it comes to shapes, sizes, color, style and functions of bath tubs. It is therefore a good idea to look around for one that's best for you. If you would like to try a new kind of bath fixture with innovative functional features, consider investing in a walk in bath tub.

A walk in bath tub is basically like your regular bath tub except it has an easy-accesses opening that can be opened or shut. When used, it is conveniently sealed and secure. There are two types of opening: inward opening and outward opening doors. There are advantages in both. While the walking in bath tub is being used, the pressure of the water inside automatically seals and secures the inward opening door. Outward opening doors can be opened outwards from the inside of the tub, thus making it useful in emergencies.

Because it comes in various designs there is almost always one that best fits your personality, your needs, your comfort and taste. Walk in bath tubs can either have built-in seats or not. Furthermore, it may already be built with grab bars, anti-slip flooring, hoses, mounted showerheads, quick filling and drainage systems, thermostatic control and even a whirlpool or hydrotherapy function.

What's special about the walk in bath tub is it answers our common bath tub problems. Many of us probably know what it's like to have to hover over bath tub rims. It can be a huge inconvenience for some as well as a hazard. You may easily miss a step, slip or fall just trying to get in or out of the bath tub.

Moreover, walk in bath tubs can be extremely useful for the elderly or those who are physically challenged. The highly innovative features of the walk in bath tub allow for super easy access without the usual step-in action, which could be both uncomfortable and unsafe.

Most walk in tubs offer the features mentioned above for better relaxation, circulation and over-all convenience.

Here are the questions you might want to ask before purchasing your desired walk in bath tub:

- How long will installation take? - Is the installation going to cause major disturbance in the house? - Will I be charged if I'm going to ask for my old bath tub to be replaced? - How long will the walk in bath tub last? - How big should the tub size be?

Installation of a walk in bath tub usually takes only one or two days. In addition to that, disturbance around the house is minimal. A good supplier will be able to replace your old tub, free of charge, for a good-quality walk in bath tub that can last 10 years without leaking. Your supplier can also give you advice on how large your bath tub should be.

A Gel Fireplace is Clean and Simple

By Garry Betsworth

Lots of people think about installing a fireplace in their house. However, when they start investigating what's involved in doing so, they quickly become overwhelmed. That's because it requires ripping out walls and installing a chimney through your roof. In addition, a wood burning fireplace needs a lot of cleaning and maintenance.

However, there's an easy alternative to the traditional fireplace. It's known as a gel fireplace, and for many people it's the ideal answer.

Many people these days are choosing this leading edge style of fireplace, and for lots of good reasons. There's no odor, soot, smoke, or fumes, which means almost no clean-up. Stockpiling wood and cleaning up soot and ashes will be a thing of the past. No need for an extensive selection of fireplace tools and accessories. Just light a can of fuel and enjoy the warmth of your ventless gel fireplace.

A ventless gel fireplace operates quite differently from a traditional fireplace. They create a real fire by burning a gel that's produced from grain alcohol. You can enjoy a real flame with this clean burning product, without all the mess of a traditional fire. Typically, a gel fireplace holds three cans of fuel. Each container burns for about three hours or so. The gel even makes the crackling noise of a wood burning fire and there are scent sticks available you can add to your canisters.

There is no construction involved in installing a gel fireplace and no hookups required. It should only take an hour or so to put it together and set it up anywhere in your house that you choose. You can even move it later on if your decor changes. Some models can be hung on a wall. Another alternative is to buy a special insert for your existing fireplace in which you can burn the gel canisters.

A gel fireplace emits no smoke or fumes. They do, however, emit a bit of carbon monoxide, but only at a level that is completely safe. They have to undergo strict testing to make sure they comply with regulations regarding emissions of this substance.

Gel fireplaces are easy to maintain. As well, they are among the most cost effective and energy efficient means of heating a small space. Because there is no flue, all the heat is projected into the room. Be aware, though, that while they do provide warmth, they are not meant to be a primary heating source for your home.

Gel fireplaces range in price from several hundred to two thousand dollars, depending on the size and style. But they're well worth it for people with busy lives who just want to enjoy a real fire without a lot of trouble.

Are You Aware Of Fire Extinguisher Safety?

By Peter Thomas

Have you reached your latter years and realise that you know nothing about how to use a fire extinguisher? That is the case with so many people, especially those in the older generation. The older generation did not have the exposure to the use of fire extinguishers that there is today, nor were they educated how to use a fire extinguisher.

If you have older parents, or you yourself are in the 60+ bracket, it would be a good idea for you to make yourself familiar with the use of a fire extinguisher.

Why? Well, as you get older it is harder to learn about new things, but also as you get older you get more careless and more forgetful. Not only that, you move more slowly, so if you had to get out of a fire you are not as nimble as you used to be.

A LITTLE SLOW WITH THE MEMORY

with a forgetful memory you may not remember to go back to the stove to attend to something cooking with fat

you may leave a cigarette burning

a heater too close to an open window and curtain, or

leave the heater on all night unattended

not work the clothes dryer properly and have a fire

You could be a really busy person and go rushing out the door forgetting something. There are many reasons why a poor memory could cause a fire.

NOT SO AGILE

as you get older you are slower getting out of a chair

you nod off at irregular times

you trip over more easily

you dont hear quite the same as you used to

any one of these experiences can stop you from containing a fire as fast as you might have in the past.

Quite simply none of these reasons which might put your life in danger, but there is one sure thing, if you have a fire extinguisher in your home, and you know how to use it, you have a much better chance of containing any sort of flair up. They really are easy to use.

All your life you have worked to get safely to your older age, and it is time to enjoy it. You dont want to have a life threatening disaster like a fire, just because you did not have a fire extinguisher on hand.

If you are reading this article, and have a parent in the latter years, and they do not have a fire extinguisher, do them and yourself a favour, buy them one and teach them how to use it. Put it near the exit door and put an Instructions sign right beside it. It really can give you peace of mind that you did your best to protect them.

Interior design is all about what theme you want

By Chris Dohlander

Victorian interior design is very distinctive in its look and its feel and it is actually pretty hard to miss the ambiance it creates once you have been exposed to it. We have all seen the pictures of the lady dressed in 1800's clothing attire, holding her umbrella as her special someone takes her hand and helps her into a small rowboat for an afternoon of rowing on the lake.

There are several integral elements involved with Victorian interior design that you will need to adhere to if you want to project the true feel and nostalgia of Victorian design.

The History of Victorian Design

The Victorian era was started in England and it is usually attached to the reign of Queen Victoria - a reign spanning from 1837 to 1901 - the longest reign of any British monarch. During this period Britain has so fondly remembered, that this period was the hallmark of unmatched peace and also a time of excited innovation as the industrial revolution edged itself into being and fortunes were being made.

The positive feeling of this period is something that people look at as being constructive and positive -as elements that produced a period of joy and happiness that were unsurpassed. The architectural design of those days was grand and Victorian interior design was very busy to the point of being considered cluttered. However, the popularity of the Victorian era of design lives on and is revered by many people worldwide.

Wallpaper that Creates the Ambiance of the Victorian Era

One of the key features of Victorian interior design was wallpaper. Wallpaper was not a new concept that was heralded in by the Victorian period. Britain is very "class" oriented and people with means and the aristocracy could afford to have the walls of their homes adorned with Victorian designed wallpaper making the most of the beautiful colors reflective of that era. From the concept that wallpaper represented some sort of status symbol the idea was born that Victorian wallpaper must be included in interior design.

You either love or hate Victorian design in wallpaper, but to create the Victorian interior design in your home you have to hang wallpaper. For those who are not a great fan of Victorian wallpaper maybe the period lends itself to some beautifully crafted Victorian furniture.

The floors atypical of the Victorian era are hard wood floors with decorative throw rugs scattered upon it. Wall to wall carpeting is hardly classed as Victorian, so to create a Victorian interior design concept the carpets would have to be replaced with hard wood floors. Circular picture frames are also associated with the Victorian era although their design has been around for centuries. When it is all said and done - a Victorian look that lends itself to being a very cluttered theme, can also be very beautiful.

Stretch Mark Removal Surgery: What You Need To Know

By Rashel Dan

One major example of a stretch mark removal surgery is the tummy tuck or the abdominoplasty. Some physicians still argue that it is not the best solution for your stretch marks, although the procedure is available for almost everyone. There are many reasons behind this argument; therefore, it would be wise to learn about them and also everything else about the procedure before undergoing a treatment as serious as this.

Finding The Right Surgeon

The first important step before going under the knife is to make sure that the right hands are holding the instrument. Meaning, you have to find a surgeon you can trust. Obviously, the surgeon you end up selecting has to have five years of surgical training with a minimum of two years in plastic surgery. He or she should be trained and experienced in all plastic surgery procedures and should only operate in accredited medical facilities. The surgeon should also strictly follow code of ethics, and standards in patient safety. Most importantly, the physician that you choose should be certified by the board of plastic surgeons in your country and area.

How To Prepare For Surgery

After you have selected the right surgeon, the next step is to discuss your expectations and desired outcome. During the consultation, the surgeon will also take the opportunity to evaluate your general health status because having heart or digestive or vascular system problems can hinder your being able to undergo tummy tuck. Right before surgery, you may be asked to take certain medications to aid in the procedure, as well as avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding. At this time, your doctor should have already explained to you the possible risks and costs involved.

Possible Risks and Costs

Here is a list of the possible risks followed by the costs you may have to experience once you decide to undergo this treatment.

- Ugly scarring - Infection - Poor wound healing - Bleeding - Anesthesia risks - Persistent pain - Possibility of nerve damage - Blood clots - Surgeon's fee - Anesthesia fees - Hospital costs - Prescriptions and Medications

If you find the benefits far outweighs the possible risks, then the third step would include the plastic surgeon or staff asking you to sign consent forms to ensure that you have fully understood the procedure that you will undergo and any possible complications.

What Happens During Surgery

On the day of the tummy tuck surgery, the fourth step will start with intravenous sedation and general anesthesia administered to the patient. Once they have taken effect, the surgeon is now ready to start the operation. A full Abdominoplasty will require a horizontal incision in the area between the navel and pubic hairline. With the incision, the surgeon can now repair weakened abdominal muscles and excess fat and skin is removed. If you want excess skin in the upper abdomen removed, a second incision around the navel has to be made. Once completed, the surgeon will use sutures, skin adhesives, and clips to close up the incisions.

Road To Recovery

The fifth and final step is not to be taken lightly just because the surgery is over. This step is just as important as the preceding steps because this will ensure the effectiveness of the stretch mark removal surgery. Dressings or bandages may be applied to the incisions to minimize the swelling and a compression garment will help support the abdomen as it heals. Within a week or two, the patient will be able to stand upright comfortably once again and the swelling would have subsided.

Selling at Craft Shows

By Geoffrey Higgins

If you think it's an easy thing to man a booth at a fair, you've got another think coming. Yes, you can just let a simple presentation try and attract customers over and look at your wares, but that sort of attitude is more of a disinterested salesperson.

Obviously, that's not what you do when you set up at a craft show. This is real work, and you'll need to be on your feet for this. Selling your crafts is not the same as fishing; it's rather akin to slowly enticing a pet to trust you. Get their attention first via bait, and build up their trust by ensuring going after that bait will be to their benefit.

So what is this about? Simple: Always be alert to potential buyers. When they show interest by lingering by your booth, that's your cue to act. Go around to the booth to them and give them a smile. Then start talking about your item.

This is why it's always best if you showcase your work yourself. If it's something you've made yourself, chances are you'll have a special bond with it, and you will find you'll be able to take about it with enthusiasm. Let the customers see how special your craft is. This will really help in convincing would-be buyers to purchase your items in the end.

I will warn you about overdoing this, though. Here are a few things you should not do when talking to potential customers:

*One, don't confuse them with technical jargon. You want them to appreciate your art, not mimic it, so don't bother them with it.

*Don't just go on and on about how awesome you are. The quality and skill that you invest in your work is not what matters, not your own ego. And lastly,

*It's a conversation, not a speech. Ask them questions, and see what exactly piqued their interest in your work. This way you can have a dynamic conversation with them, which would lead to them being more favorably disposed to buying your product.

How Long Does A Car Accident Compensation Claim Take?

By David Halbert

While a car accident is in itself a horrible experience to go through, the process of filing a compensation claim and following it through can make it seem even worse. Here is some information that can help guide you through the process if ever you have to file a car accident compensation claim.

Car accident compensation claims are filed by the person that is innocent in the accident. These cases are filed in court, with the assistance of a barrister. This will aid you in getting compensated for all your accident-related expenses, such as medical and car repair expenses.

Whereas there are numerous solicitors who deal in cases related to accidents and injuries, you can also locate one by looking on the internet. After the police and insurance company have determined that the accident was not your fault, you can start getting in touch with solicitors to aid you in receiving compensation for your expenses.

These claims, if they are taken to court, are heard by a judge, but not a jury. Usually a majority of insurance companies settle these cases out of court by offering to give a one-time payment that compensates you completely, as they do not want the trouble of going to court. It is a smart idea to meet with your barrister about the sum you are being offered through court, just to confirm that the company is not underpaying you in order to save money.

Be aware of the statute of limitations before you file your claim. A large number of people wait till they are healthy, and then start the case filing process - which usually results in their being ineligible to file a claim since the statute of limitations has already been passed. It is a great idea to talk to your barrister to make sure you are within your rights to file a claim, and if possible dive into the proceedings as quickly as possible.

Most lawyers take cases on contingency. This means that if you lose, they will not need to be paid, but if they win they will be paid. This payment is mostly paid by the party being sued, in which case you can keep 100% of your claim. Make sure you get a specialist lawyer who gets you 100% of your claim, and takes their payment from the sued party, so that you don't end up paying a part of your claim to the lawyer.

From start to finish this can take a while, as it involves police and the insurance companies and the medical experts who need to verify that your claim is right. This can take anywhere from two to four months, or even longer than that. A majority of the cases that get solved in two months are straight forward, and all the paperwork is in order. Cases that are tougher to process, or where one party is dragging out the proceedings, can take much more time.

So, ensure you begin proceedings as quickly as possible after the accident to be sure you get your money back in the shortest possible time. Hiring a good solicitor is another way of making sure you get your payment easily, and without any trouble.
