So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Your Dinner Recipes Easy and Practical

By Peter Hallway

It's a fast paced world. People do more and more, which compensates for the speed modern technology brings to tasks. Life at home sometimes takes a hit. People have less energy to spend around the house. That means meals too. Making dinner recipes easy has become a holy grail. Good thing the modern world also includes a lot of quick recipes.

In the old days meals were made from scratch. Grinding meat into casings was the way to make sausage. Spaghetti involved slaving over a noodle press and cooking sauce for hours. With far fewer women in the work force that was hard, but not impossible. Women mostly stayed home, so it wasn't impossible. When women started to join the work force more ready made foods became available. Instant cakes became more common. It's now a simple matter to bake a cake. It's no longer a half day affair. Things are different.

There are lots of places to find out how to cook more quickly. Television cooking shows are everywhere, for example. Gone are the days of the Galloping Gourmet getting drunk on cooking Sheri while Julia Child droned on about fancy French meals. Today's cooking shows focus on every day meals for every day people. Techniques for combining fresh foods with pre-packaged elements are displayed. That doesn't mean heating a can of soup. The focus is delicious meals that appear to take a lot longer to make than they really do.

Pre-packaged and ready made food aren't bland like they used to be. People can grab a roasted chicken at the local store deli. It's like a restaurant that serves the food right at your home. Freeze these meals for eating another time, too. That's another idea coming into vogue. Use the weekend to cook, then freeze the meals to eat during the week when life is busier. Many foods don't suffer from being frozen and reheated.

Even today it's possible to eat well without eating out daily. There are plenty of places to learn about making dinner recipes easy. Bon appetite.
