So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Enhancing Your Dorm Room With Less

By Jethro Willis

You're on your way to college and on the road to independence. If at home you were subjected to your mom's taste in home decors, now it's your time to shine! You have full reign over what to do with your dorm room. Well, that is if you're roommate agrees. But now that you're going to have your place for the next years or so, you've found the perfect venue to express yourself.

Decorating a dorm room can be a bit challenging. Most college students don't have a big budget to work with. They look for decor at Wal-Mart, Target, or even thrift stores. While these stores have some great options, you will still need to get creative to make every penny work for you.

Dorm rooms are typically small and the centerpiece is mostly the bed, with little space to accommodate anything else fancy. Capitalize on the bed as the focal point by using attractive bedding. Use not just your preferred colors but also a shade that brightens up your room (especially that you can't repaint the walls) or one that goes with the season. Deep, dark colors are autumn and winter tones while light, floral colors are those of summer and spring.

Storage is another important part of dorm room design. Because your space is so small, you should use every square inch to your advantage. Try raising your bed with cement blocks painted in a cool color to provide some extra space for plastic crates underneath. Take advantage of every surface. You could put your television on a bedside table or make a computer desk out of a brightly colored storage crate. Get creative to make the most of your space.

Remember that the walls offer plenty of room for storage and design accents. Floating shelves offer storage for books and a place to display art work. Since most dorms won't let you paint, you could drape fabric over the walls or cover small sections in removable colored contact paper to create a checkerboard effect. Posters also provide splashes of color and an opportunity to show off style preferences.

Last but not the least, the floor also needs your attention. Decorate with an area rug to give some warmth to your dorm room. The area rug can liven up the room or make it sophisticated. It can make it trendy or conservative. Your preference will be reflected in your choice of rug.
