So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

How To Create A Really Nice Cubby For Your Hubby

By Ruth Becker

You can maximize the other rooms in your house not just with functionality. Sure, you have to use your basement and garage's full potentials, but you can also make these rooms look much better than is normally expected. You can even transform one of these rooms into a special place of relaxation or an additional space for house parties.

A good paint, storage space, nice furnishings and some attractive decors will seal the deal - you have a comfortable place to hang out in and one that can surprisingly be your home's major attraction.

First decide what you are using the room for. If it is a garage area, you may have to share the space with your car. A basement area is usually pretty large and if it is not finished, you may consider painting the floor. Painting the garage floor might be a good idea as well.

Repaint the walls and the floor with bright colors. Garage and basement are usually dark because of the closed space, therefore using colors that reflect instead of absorb light will make the room look more spacious and airy. Also, add good lighting, especially in dark corners.

Next comes the furniture. If you feel like relaxing on the garage floor with a mat (be sure the floor is clean!), that's fine too. However, relaxation is better with the right chair or couch. Pair it with a nice side table, a lamp, stereo or TV and a small bookshelf for magazines and books, and you have a mini-living room. Hanging out with friends will be just as comfortable.

Add some nice decorations to personalize the space. You can hang some artworks (inexpensive or your own work) on the wall. It can be a framed photograph or painting. Place some souvenir items. Area rugs make great decors as well, especially those that fit in with the rest of the room in size, shape and color.

Complete the look by decorating with an area rug.

If you choose a larger area rug, you can place the furniture pieces on the perimeter of the rug. However, if you only have one piece of furniture on the rug's border, it will look like you have the wrong size area rug and ran out of space. If all or at least a couple pieces are placed on the border of the rug, then the area will be anchored by the area rug and it will appear cohesive.

Choosing a bamboo area rug might be a good choice here. This will depend on your furniture style. If the furniture is mismatched, it is very easy to change the look by using furniture throws or covers. This way you can make your look more harmonious.

The color of your area rug needs to be the same value or tone of the walls, furniture and floor, especially if it is painted. You don't want your rug to stand out like a sore thumb but rather be the focal point that defines your grouping.

With these steps, your garage will never be just a space for your car and long forgotten items.
