So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Best Laptop Backpack Basics

By Patti Ross

The laptop computer has become commonplace in both the business and school environment. Many consider their laptop and other items commonly carried inside such as their cell phones, purses and wallets as necessities. Fortunately this phenomenon has not been ignored by backpack manufacturers, and they have responded by bringing a wide assortment of laptop backpacks on the market. In fact, with so many models to choose from, it is often difficult to select the best laptop backpack for ones particular needs.

There are a number of laptop brands. Of course each manufacturer will attempt to market their backpacks to a specialized niche. The more popular and best rated backpacks are from SwissGear (also referred to as Wenger SwissGear, makers of the Swiss army knife), Targus and Case Logic. Of course there are many other makers of backpacks, but the manufacturers listed above have a history of producing laptop backpacks as opposed to low-end student backpacks.

There are some unique features incorporated into some backpacks that may a surprise to some. Since many people carry I-pods or mp3 players with them, some laptop backpacks will feature the ability to keep the player securely in the backpack, while being able to control the player from outside the backpack through external controls incorporated into the backpack. Many backpacks have incorporated handy and easily accessible compartments for such items as pens, wallets and cell phones. This is where it is a good idea to study the different approaches to accessory storage and determine your personal preference.

With the emergence of the wide screen 17 inch notebooks and laptops, the makers of backpacks have responded with larger designs specifically for these new laptops. The design challenge was to build a larger backpack with enough padding that would safely protect the backpack without becoming too large and cumbersome. Based on the sales of these larger backpacks, one would have to conclude that the industry has adequately met this challenge.

The price range of backpacks offered by the brands mentioned in this article generally are in the $30 to $70 range. Taking into account the features and build quality of these units, they offer an excellent value. The price range quoted here are based on discounted prices sourced through online retailers, and are substantially less than the manufacturers suggested retail price.

Most quality laptops are constructed with heavy nylon. If you prefer more natural materials, Case Logic makes theirs from heavy cotton canvas. This results in a very comfortable backpack, and a bit less bulky. If your budget allows there are also some excellent leather laptop backpacks that have a more organic look and some feel actually look better with age. Other materials sometimes used in backpack construction are denim and wool blends, though these are not common.
