So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Great Barbecue Accessories Offer New Grilling Options

By Stephen Daniels

No matter what season it is, the most avid barbecue enthusiasts are always looking for ways to sharpen up their grilling techniques. From unique ways to add flavor to food to entirely new ways to use a grill, there are an endless variety of options. Here are some barbecue accessories that both beginning and expert grill chefs can benefit from.

While many people have converted to the gas grill for its efficiency and ease of lighting, most will admit that only charcoal can give that classic grilled flavor. One popular solution to this quandary is the charcoal basket. Made of durable stainless steel, charcoal baskets are designed to sit right on top of a gas grill's burners. This enables the coals to heat quickly and be ready for cooking in no time at all, providing the best of both grills: the simplicity of the gas and the great taste of the charcoal.

For a delicious wood smoke flavor, wood chips of many different varieties, including hickory, alder, maple or applewood, are available for grilling or smoking food. Each different type of wood imparts a different flavor. Many gas grills come with baskets or drawers that are especially for wood chips, or a basket for this purpose can be purchased separately.

The Rib-O-Lator is an excellent new accessory that can turn the inside of a grill into a rotisserie. Fitting easily on most medium to large grill models, the difference between Rib-O-Lator and other rotisserie options is its four tray design. This allows cooking of many items that ordinary rotisseries can't accommodate, such as ribs. Food on these trays is cooked by indirect heat, which has many benefits. Juices are sealed inside meats, making them tender, moist and more flavorful than ever. The trays help to contain excess juices, preventing dangerous flare-ups and reducing clean-up. The trays offer a lot more cooking surface, letting you cook more foods at a time. In addition, Rib-O-Lator cooking requires much less supervision than traditional barbecue techniques.

Another flavorful cooking option is the Flavordome Barbecue Flavoring System, which is a set of grilling tools that trap in heat, smoke, reduce fire and burn, and help to create cleaner smoke flavor. It comes with several excellent rubs and sauces as well.

All too often, delicate fish and smaller vegetable pieces fall through the grill or stick to the grating. A perfect way to solve this problem is a grilling basket. Simple yet ingenious, these baskets are small cages that hold food securely. Most feature a handle to simplify turning the items. Regular and non-stick varieties as well as many sizes and shapes are available. Specialty baskets for items like ears of corn can eliminate undesirable charring. Larger grilling baskets can accommodate vegetables and smaller meat items at the same time. Many of these baskets have detachable handles so the grill lid can be closed during cooking.

What do you buy for the grill chef that has everything? Iron brands for marking food on the grill make a unique gifts. Avid barbecue fans will enjoy the novelty of stamping a "signature" on their barbecue masterpieces. Brands might say Dad or Chef, but can also be customized with initials or names.

Grilling techniques from chef to chef are as unique as barbecue enthusiasts themselves, and everyone has their own tips and tricks for making that perfect steak or rack of ribs. Whether you're looking for a way to reduce cleanup time or an entirely new method of using your grill, these tools offer something for just about everyone.
