So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Warm A Heart With Your Child's Own Handmade Valentine Card

By Nicole Dean

An old fashioned idea sometimes is the best idea. Take, for instance, homemade Valentine cards. Giving a card to someone you love is wonderful, but when you make that card by hand, it's guaranteed to make a heart melt - especially Grandma and Grandpa!

Your child's homemade card may be simple, but the sentiment will make it special. Perfection is not the key here. You want your children to express themselves and create something that unique and special. So, get out the supplies and let's start making Valentine cards that are sure to put a smile on anyone's face!

Hand And Heart Valentine - Even the youngest child can create this simple but touching Valentine card. You'll need to get together a few supplies including at least two colors of construction paper, a pencil, markers, glue, and scissors.

Simply trace the outline of your child's hand with fingers spread out on one colored piece of construction paper with a pencil. Cut the hand outline out. Then, on the other color of construction paper, draw a small heart that will fit in the palm of the cut out hand outline and cut that small heart out. Now, glue the little heart in the palm of the cut out hand. Have your child write a "Happy Valentine's Day" greeting inside the heart, something classic like "I love you with all my heart" will always get Grandparents all misty eyed. If your child is too young to write, a little picture drawn on the heart would be nice.

Ribbon Trimmed Valentine Heart - For a child who enjoys crafts, this Valentine is a real joy. You'll need some construction paper in pretty colors, or some card stock. You'll also need a pencil, hole punch, ribbon, yarn, and scissors. You can use those fancy scrapbooking scissors if you have them.

Start by drawing a heart on the construction paper or card stock. Then, cut out the heart using special scissors if you can, or regular ones will work, too. Using the hole punch, have your child punch holes along the edge of the heart, being sure to end up with an even number of holes. Taking the ribbon or yarn, fold in half, and start looping one half through the holes at the bottom of the heart and up one side, ending with the loose ribbon at the top. Then repeat up the other side with the other half, ending with two loose ribbon ends at the top of the heart. Tie those two ends together to form a pretty bow. Now your child can decorate the heart with sentiments, glitter, stickers, or whatever a pretty Valentine should have!

Collage Valentine Card - Sometimes a glittery heart isn't what your little one wants to present to Grandpa or Dad. An alternative is a collage of images that will please him or that expresses your feelings. You'll just need some construction paper, scissors, craft glue, and magazines or catalogs that suit the recipient's interests.

Sit down with your child and page through all the magazines and catalogs and start cutting out pictures that would appeal to the Valentine card recipient. Then, fold a piece of construction paper in half to form a card. Have your child arrange the pictures so they look nice, then start gluing them in place. Your child can use markers to write in captions for the pictures and Valentine sentiments. Decorate the front and insides as much as your child wishes. Finish with a hand written Valentine greeting and signature, or scribble if the child is very young, and you've got a one-of-a-kind card for a one-of-a-kind loved one!

No matter what kind of homemade Valentine card your child makes, the fact that he or she made it with their very own little hands is what warms the heart. Start today gathering your material so you'll be ready to create some wonderful Valentine memories. Happy Valentine's Day!
