So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Mercedes SLS Basics

By John Legend

Mercedes-Benz has a new supercar called the Mercedes SLS AMG. With starting prices of around 180,000 bucks it is priced to directly compete with the likes of Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin. Aside from all the usual overall performance evaluations there is one element this super car has that the other cars do not - the gullwing Mercedes is back. Entertainment: well, there's a 6.2 litre engine in the front providing a rumble to match anything to leave Detroit. With over 550 hp the SLS would be an enjoyable drive even if the overall handling was poor. Fortunately that is not the case. It's agile, poised and even though its feels a little stiff on the highway the combination of engine and handling offers a fantastic drive.

In terms of functionality the vehicle is really a little bit of a mixed bag. Mercedes-Benz have clearly considered how this vehicle is going to be used and the Mercedes SLS AMG incorporates standard features to offer everyday usability like sat-nav as well as a good stereo. Nevertheless the gullwings, as renowned as they're, make it a discomfort to get inside and out of the car, make the vehicle quite wide and also you really have to stretch out to pull the doors down once you are inside. The design also means headroom is fairly tight as well.

The gearbox really is a double clutched matter which operates really well. There is a short delay when you flick the paddles however in general it feels extremely sharp and responsive. The vehicle is very obviously rear wheel drive. The seating position is really back and also harks back to old school, honest GT's and put together with the razor-sharp steering you've got complete faith in where the front of the car is going to go. This super car can go round edges really, really fast - in the event you tried hard enough you could possibly keep up with a 4-wheel drive Porsche 911 Turbo. It is also blazingly quick in a straight line - really impressive for a weighty, front engined Grand Tourer.

Considering value for cash - can any vehicle at this price be regarded as reasonable value? Possibly not but put alongside its peers it is well priced. Let's look at it one more way - in opposition to the Mercedes McLaren SLR, the SLS is quicker, handles better and is less costly to the tune of almost two hundred thousand dollars. So, the SLS is really a raucous and loud affair dominated by the enormous powerhouse of an engine - but at the same time civilized by the typical high standards of refinement and usability that you would want from a Mercedes-Benz.
