So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Steps to Protect Your Home from Fire and Flood

By Susan Moss

Even though there is plenty of information available about fire and flood prevention, most people don't expect one of these disasters to happen in their homes. As a result, they fail to plan properly, putting themselves at risk for significant losses. When you take the time to prepare, you protect yourself from the devastation posed by fire and flood, and you also stand ready to facilitate a quicker recovery in the event that you should become a victim.

Preventing fire begins with proactively planning for safety. Each floor of your home should have a fire alarm and you should purchase a fire extinguisher. You may want to consider adding a sprinkler system as well. It's import that all family members know how to operate the extinguisher and that they know what they should do if the fire alarm is activated.

Smoke alarms and fire extinguishers are a great starting point, but they must be accompanied by safe habits at home. Always double-check to make sure candles, cigarettes, and fireplaces have been thoroughly extinguished before going to bed or leaving home. It's also important to provide plenty of room around space heaters and other electronics, while regular check-ups can prevent fires caused by malfunctioning heating systems or clothes dryers.

Once you've done all you can to prevent disasters in your home, your next step should be to purchase an insurance policy that will cover fire and flood damage. Many initial homeowners insurance policies do not cover floods, so you may need to purchase additional coverage, especially if you're in a flood zone. To ensure efficient fire restoration, Salt Lake City and Phoenix homeowners should make sure their insurance policies provide enough funds to cover the cleanup and repair process.

Next, make sure you have a disaster preparedness plan in place. Begin by protecting your irreplaceable documents in a fire and flood proof safe. Gather emergency information including phone numbers and contacts in a central location and make sure each family member knows where to go and who to call in case of emergency. Finally, keep emergency supplies such as extra food, flashlights, batteries, blankets, and water on hand in case you lose power or can't leave your home during a flood.

It can be disconcerting to think about a fire or flood striking your home, but planning ahead can help you prevent extensive damage and expedite the process of flood and fire restoration. Phoenix residents can receive professional service from First Response twenty-four hours a day to minimize damage and facilitate the cleanup and restoration process.
