So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Jewelry Making Tips For Beginners

By Christine Clarke

Making your own jewelry can be a lot of fun, but the best part is that it can become profitable if you get good enough at it as well. There are no advanced skills needed so just about anyone can try their hand at it. If you are enthusiastic and willing to learn the basics from some jewelry making tips then you will be off to a good start.

The most important thing involved when you make jewelry at home is your own creativity. There are many tools and supplies that can be used but even with the most basic start up kit you will be able to create beautiful and stylish accessories.

Getting acquainted with the basic tools and techniques will make it far easier to get started. Experimenting with different methods is encouraged, but starting small with earrings or bracelets is advisable.

The type of jewelry being made will determine exactly what materials are required. Some great tools to have include a pair of round nosed pliers, as these will be useful for bending wire and creating loops, while flat nosed pliers are helpful when opening and closing chain links and also holding the parts being used.

Another important tool is a pair of wire cutters. These can be used to cut stringing materials or thin wire. However, you should use memory wire cutters if you are using memory wire.

Some other equipment that will no doubt be accumulated along the way include beading needles, scissors, crimping pliers a measurement tool and a bead board. Most of these and other useful materials and supplies can be found at craft and bead shops.

Designing accessories may seem daunting at first, but inspiration can be found just about anywhere. From magazines to fashion boutiques, and everywhere in between, looking for new ideas will give your creativity a boost. Jewelry making does not have to follow any strict rules, but following a few simple guidelines can go a long way.

Beginning by designing something which you find appealing will help you to start developing your own style. When feeling uninspired, drawing up rough sketches of possible ideas can help. One important consideration to bear in mind that the colours you choose should blend well when used together. The use of different textures, shapes and sizes of beads will often produce interesting and effective results, especially when there is a focal point which draws attention.

Another thing to consider is functionality. The more outfits it can be worn with, the more chance you will have of selling it. Remember also that spacing and the use of connectors is a great way to make your designs unique. Be careful to ensure that the beads you choose are not too heavy for the threading material being used.

The best thing you can do to keep your designs unique and interesting is to keep updating your skills. Try to learn new methods and techniques, and look for more jewelry making tips as often as possible. Basically, the more time and effort you put into practicing, the more options you will have and the more fun it will be.
