So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Why You Might Need Your Kitchen Remodeling

By Wayne Hemrick

Kitchens are very personal spaces, and for the enthusiastic cook, they must be made-to-measure. It is a place where they need to be comfortable, everything in its place and a place for everything. This is why, when you move into a new home you may have to consider some kitchen remodeling.

First of all you have to see what options are available to you and sketch out a plan of where you would need all your appliances to be. Of course you want it to look good, but it must be functional. Take a look at some of the model kitchens you see in magazines and large home-care stores to get some ideas. Depending on the budget available, you could also hire the services of a professional designer.

Your budget would also depend on whether you are going to keep the appliances that you already have, or purchase new ones. The size, quality, and durability of the appliances is very important. This is especially true if space is restricted, or you are going for a design where all the appliances are built-in, and hidden away.

When you start to to do your planning, you will have to make certain decisions, based on your budget and your abilities. You could go with one of the kitchen design specialists, who will help you with your design, based on the modules they have available. This would be quite an easy solution, and you would end up with a beautiful fitted workspace, the problem is that it might not be exactly what you want. However, you can do everything yourself from scratch, building cupboards and work surfaces, equipment installation, and the plumbing.

The space you have available is also a factor you have to bear in mind. The positioning of the electric sockets, plumbing and entrance points are things that you might not want to alter in your new design, as this will just add to the expense. It is factors like these that might determine the shape that you need to work with, as there is no point aiming for a U-shaped design if that is only going to block the doorway, or limit the available light.

Then you have to consider the functionality that this room requires. It is wise to keep the cooking, refrigeration, and sink areas pretty close to each other. When locating the sink, bear in mind that it might be visible from other places within your living area, if it is an open plan.

Another set of three areas that you must plan to be ergonomically functional are the food storage, food preparation, and a clean areas. Kitchens can be very dangerous places so you do not want to be moving about too much, especially if you have hot pans on the stove. You should also plan where you are going to store necessary utensils. You do not want to have heavy pans stored above waist height or they may fall and cause damage. Sharp knives and other dangerous implements should also be secured safely away, but clearly visible when you are looking for something.

Whenever kitchen remodeling is discussed, consider how you and your family plan to use the area. It is going to be the you and not for some celebrity chef. But most of all, the finished kitchen should be functional, comfortable, and safe.
