So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Searching For A Timely Plumber In Swindon

By Simon Sanchez

There are at least as many plumbers in Swindon as there are ways to negotiate the Magic Roundabout. There are also many reasons why you might need a plumber but whether you live in Cricklade, Wroughton, Wootton Bassett or Purton there are plenty to choose from. You can simply search for "plumber Swindon" and pick the first name, but that might not be the one you need.

Nobody likes to think that they may have water pouring through their ceiling at 3am, but cold winter nights can bring on all sorts of problems with your pipes. If you are lucky, and the leak is minor then you could switch off the water at the stopcock or put a bucket under the drip and go back to bed. Plumbers are expensive in the middle of the night and if it can wait until daylight then better to call between 9am and 5pm.

If the problem is rather more urgent like the pipe from the mains bursting and you can't find which of the holes in the road turns off your supply then thankfully there are a selection of plumbers in the area who provide a 24 hour callout service. You don't have to wait until a civilised hour while your kitchen slowly turns into a swimming pool.

It was commonplace for a plumber to charge a huge fee before even stepping over the threshold, let alone fixing the problem, but there are many companies offering their services without a callout charge. If you have time before your staircase becomes Niagara Falls, it might be worth comparing the hourly rates of a few companies as a few pounds an hour difference adds up on a long job.

Some home insurers provide a list of companies or individuals in the area that are 'approved' by them for emergency work. This is helpful to know as it can make claiming much easier if the contractor is on their list. Check your buildings and contents insurance policies for this kind of information.

Not all plumbing work is the result of a crisis. Putting in a new bathroom or heating system can be planned for a time that suits you and you can take time to choose a contractor based on a number of quotes. Recommendations from friends or colleagues can be invaluable and bear in mind that someone might be very cheap for a reason.

Gas appliances need to be installed and serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer. This has replaced the CORGI qualification for gas fitters. Landlords need be especially aware as the law requires annual safety checks by a qualified engineer.

A magic "plumber Swindon" is easy to find through Yellow Pages, the internet or local ads. Whichever company you use don't forget to lay in a good supply of tea and biscuits to keep them happy while they work.
