So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Scare Kids and Teens with a Haunted House

By Chris White

Halloween is one of the most celebrated occasions on the calender. Not only do people find the day enchanting and mysterious, but they get to explore their "less serious", sides. It is certainly worthwhile saving up and creating authentically-looking Halloween Haunted Houses, where you can host the scariest, most daring parties of the season.

For a taste of, "the real thing", visiting the most scary, commercial haunting grounds will make for a thrilling experience. Many of these destinations feature their own customized tours of the house and the grounds, accentuated by ghost stories and sightings which may have occurred. One can even have a virtual tour of one of these destinations online. Here are a few tips on how to create an authentically scary party destination of your own.

There are some elements which any party simply cannot do without. These include Jack O' lanterns, which can be carved by hand from fresh pumpkins, cobwebs which can be made from cotton-wool which has been stretched out, or cardboard bats which can be attached to walls, curtains and light fittings.

To create an authentic atmosphere, you should include ambient noises like people screaming, ghosts howling, chains rattling or footsteps approaching. These can be recorded and played on a home theatre system for optimum effect. Also, organ music sets the spooky tone really well.

Needless, to say, the house will produce its best effect at night. To create an eerie atmosphere, candles should be placed all around the house - allowing shadows to dance across the walls. To add the "X-factor", and make it extra scary, one should gather a few friends to act as scary characters and scare party guests randomly throughout the night.

The most popular characters for Halloween Haunted Houses are werewolves, witches, evil scientists and magicians and icons like, the Grim Reaper. The best costumes come complete with horrifying features like veneer fangs which appear very life-like or a set of white or red contact lenses - there is nothing better than a well-rounded, scary costume.

Some headstones and graves make ideal decorations for a garden and can be hand-made from sturdy cardboard. Alternatively, small cairns can be made from pebbles with one large rock on the top stating, "R. I. P." creativity can make the options endless. Adding a fake hand made to look as if it is emerging from the grave will add the perfect finish. Sparking a bonfire (abiding by safety regulations of course) around which guests can sit under the stars and tell their best ghost stories, will make the experience even more incredible. Needless to say, don't forget the candy.
