It requires 4 AA batteries, which took most of its weight, or USB powered (cable provided). The product also comes with a small water bottle used to moist the filter.
Is it meant to be a wrist strap? Because I would never attach it to my hand and walk around with it because is a bit large to do that.
Temperatures have gotten surprisingly hot so early this year. The Handy Cooler cools you down quite well and is easy to use. I live in the dry Southwest and this handy cooler is perfect. It's well engineered, quiet, and very convenient to bring around.
Anyway my point is that the handy cooler is great for at home use - my wife and I use it when we're watching a movie on the couch or I place it next to the bed while I sleep. This fan is perfect for drying your nails after a manicure! The battery lasted a good 2 days before I have to replace them. You need to take the filter out and refill out but I find it easier to pour water directly onto the filter even with the lid on (the lid has a lot of holes to breathe). To confirm this I opened the sponge compartment and the sponge was still wet from the previous user! I was disgusted because I had NO CLUE whether that wetness was water or something else. It is portable around the house, although not so much when going out because it isn't exactly pocket size so I usually just keep it next to me on my desk. To be honest I don't really understand what the strap on it is for. So I'd have to put this thing really close to my face to feel the air. I wished fan speed was more powerful. And it's really best if you just blow it right on your face for cooling rather than trying to cool an area. I guess if you had a small dog house it might work. There are some counterfeit handy coolers and I was tempted to get one but I'm glad I didn't because the quality of the thing is very solid. I thought it was rather expensive but once I got it, I knew I was paying for the durability of a well-made piece of equipment.
It basically works by increasing the moisture in the air which cools you down which is why you need to wet the filter. The product might sound complicated, but once you see it, you'll realize that its not complicated at all requiring only a few minutes to get working. No other fan cools the air down like this one. My mother in law borrowed it to help with hot flashes she gets due to medication. If only it had built in rechargeable batteries it would be perfect! If I could give this item negative stars I would. This fan is hugely overpriced and not worth the $49.98 plus shipping.
If it's around 90 degrees or hotter it's not so great. The sponge that you wet dries quickly in high temps.
