So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Biggest home trends in 2012

By Juliette Swanage

2012 looks set to be a year of exciting trends in interior design. If you're looking to update your home for the New Year, take some inspiration from some of the most sought-after looks for designers this season.

Vintage is a huge trend that isn't going anywhere in 2012. It's all about mixing and matching whatever you have to give your home a cosy and relaxed feel. Clashing colours and textures are the norm, so whatever you have you can make it work. Try picking up a folksy throw to update an old sofa, or some interesting patterned plates for your kitchen. It's also a great excuse to dust off any old furniture you had hidden away- if it doesn't match with everything else it's all the better for this look. Markets and vintage stores are also great sources of lovely trinkets for this trend which won't cost a fortune.

2012 is not a year to hold back with your home design: bold, bright colours are going to be huge this year and it's a great way to have some fun and show your creativity. Absolutely anything goes with this look- all the colours of the rainbow were seen at the shows and they can all look great. Just two things to remember: firstly, this look is about sticking to one, central colour; and secondly, make sure the colour you choose is bright, bright, bright!

The industrial style is also a hot look for the coming year. This trend is brilliant if you are living in rented accommodation, where white walls and bare wooden floors are all too often the norm- why not make them into a feature themselves? Industrial is all about minimalist, clean lines: think exposed wood on furniture, bare lightbulbs and scrubbed metal. If done in the right way it can look super chic and as is a look that won't date.

These trends are all easy to do and you can find plenty of inspiration on the web or at interior design stores and shows. Above all though, have fun! Your home should reflect your personality, so with that in mind you can choose a theme that not only looks good but makes you feel great as well.
