So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Cooking Like A Pro Made Easy With These Basic Tips

By John Dorian

There is always room for improvement when it comes to cooking. Even the best chefs can learn new ideas to make their dishes turn out better. There are some great tips that new cooks can learn to make cooking easier. The advice listed here can help you learn more about cooking.

Prepare for your outdoor cooking by starting your barbeque grill so that it's at optimum temperature when you are ready to cook. Plan to start preparing the grilling surface about half an hour before you place food on it. The coals should have an ash covering and should emit medium heat. This is the best temperature for grilling.

When you are making chicken stock, think in terms of high volume. Make sure that you prepare a large amount of stock so that you will have more than enough to store and use for future kitchen adventures. Many great recipes including soups, casseroles and stews call for a base of chicken stock. First, cool the stock and then stick it in the freezer.

In order to ensure your meats are being cooked properly, you should make use of a meat thermometer. Meats have a specific internal temperature schedule that determines they are cooked and safe for human consumption. If meat is under cooked, the bacteria in the meat can be consumed, which could result in illness.

When it's time to mash the potatoes for that good ole home-cooked taste, try using hot milk. Using hot, rather than cold, milk results in more fluffed-up and lighter mashed potatoes. Would anyone prefer boring mashed potatoes lacking in smooth texture?

Keep all spices stored out of the sunlight. Your spices will not last as long if they are exposed to light, heat or humidity. Try to find a cool, dark cupboard if you want to increase the flavor and lifespan of your favorite spices. Your food will be even more delicious if your spices are fresher.

Do you plan on cooking with fresh basil? Place your basil into a large glass. Fill the glass just enough with water so that the stems can absorb it. You could let it sit on your counter and it will stay fresh for weeks. Change the water from time to time so that the basil grows roots. You should also cut the basil so that it keeps growing.

Learn how to quickly and easily slice cinnamon rolls. When your cinnamon roll has been prepared, it can be hard to cut it into slices. Place a piece of strong thread beneath the roll where you're going to make a cut. Gather the thread around each side, then cross it over the top, pulling with a strong force and dividing the roll with the strength of your motion. Your cinnamon roll slices will be just the right shape.

Even cooks with years of experience continue to learn ways to improve their cooking and technique. Read up on the subject of cooking so you can get as much as you can out of your learning experience in the kitchen. Try putting these tips to work for you in your own kitchen to expedite, improve and enjoy cooking even more.
