So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Our Furniture Is A Reflection Of Who We Are

By Adriana Noton

As it should be, the world is made of different kinds of people. They all have their own opinion as to what it is that decorates a home. What one may cherish as the finest in decor; another will not like at all. This is very much a part of human nature and it all makes life enjoyable. The furniture we choose to use in our home reflects our personality as much as the clothes we wear.

The first one we will touch on is modern or contemporary. The same style is known by either name. In this kind of decor you will see many highly polished areas mixed in with geometric designs and prints. The contrast is often quite stark as white is used against black. The design is simplistic but it gives off an aura of sophistication.

There is nothing more elegant then the era of traditional decor. As the name signifies, it was commonplace a few centuries ago, and it is found in homes of the present. If you wish to express a setting of grandeur this is for you. The elaborately carved and dark woods that make up Chippendale and Queen Anne pieces are as much at home in the 21st century as they were in the 18th century.

People had a problem decorating small city dwellings until the birth of the urban styling in furnishings. These pieces are small in stature and they fit well in surroundings that have less room. The woods found here will have a black veneer and be used with lots of glass. The other extreme would be to use light woods and accent them with aluminum and glass.

What can be said about the country and cottage styles that is not apparent to the eye. Furnishing lines are simple with pieces painted and decorated with theme ideas. Scatter rugs enhance the floor and ruffled curtains adorn the windows. Roosters were at one time all the rage and covered every part of the kitchen.

Outdoor folk will rely heavily on the rustic cabin style home. Wood walls with ceilings left open and beams exposed, are the most prominent features of this design. Furniture will consist of pieces that are made to look hewn by hand and provide a lot more comfort than it seems they will.

In addition there is the eclectic design. This is used by people who have fallen in love with a certain era and they wish to replicate it in their living quarters. Transitional pieces are a blend of the simplistic design of contemporary and the grace found with traditional. In addition to these styles, there is Amish and art deco.

All of us are as unique as the way we live. The way we live expresses what we find comforting and enjoyable. Our living space is created by us because this is what we desire. The furniture we choose are accents of our lives and mirror our taste in design. These many styles are as different as the kinds of people that inhabit the earth.
