So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Tips for Obtaining a Travel Visa

By Adriana Noton

If you are going overseas, you may be in need of a travel visa. If you are, and you have never acquired one before, you may get a bit overwhelmed. Obtaining this documentation does not have to be difficult as long as you know where to go and what supporting paperwork you will need.

The first step to getting your travel visa is learning whether or not you will need one. You will need one if you will be spending a lengthy amount of time in any foreign country. This includes those studying abroad, individuals working in a foreign land, or anyone who plans on staying much longer than the typical vacation. In most countries, persons who stay for longer than 90 days will need a visa. However, this is not the rule. Some countries, like Afghanistan and Australia, require this documentation for entry and may even detain those who attempt to enter without it.

Once you have determined that you do need a visa, the next step is deciding where and how to obtain it. Because these documents are given by the country you are visiting and not the United States, getting the appropriate document is not as simple as applying for other travel documents, like US Passports. The easiest and most reputable way is to visit the State Department for the appropriate contact information. Depending on your country of choice, you may be able to download applications and even set up an appointment online. At the very least, you will be directed to the appropriate location for finding out where you need to go to get your documentation.

Choosing a third party for purchasing any type of travel document is often a bad idea. Many companies claim to offer quick service for a small fee. These companies, while usually operating legally, generally provide an unneeded service. Their services are often no more than those of a typical courier. Also, you will still be required to pay the regular processing fee for your documentation along with the fee that you pay to the company itself.

The documentation required for your travel papers is usually no more than a valid US Passport, though it varies by country. The fees for travel papers vary greatly as well, from a very small amount to the hundreds of dollars. This often depends upon what country you are travelling to as well as the type of papers you need. Students, business travelers, and those hoping to make homes in their particular country are given different statuses in most places. Because of this, the fee changes, sometimes considerably.

The most important thing to remember is to do your research well in advance of your trip. Some countries, like France, require that you applied for your travel papers at least two weeks before you need them. It can be virtually impossible to receive or change travel papers once you have arrived. Other countries, like Rwanda, require you to apply in person after you are already on that country's soil. Of course, in countries like UAE, you can apply in advance for UAE Visa for Canadians before your visit.
