So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Kitchen Renovations on a Budget

By Tina Gleisner

Many new products are introduced to home design professionals in business expositions. In one of the latest kitchen and bath expos, numerous suppliers displayed and shared their views, decorating style and products for kitchen and bathroom remodeling on a shoe-string budget. Professionals were interviewed and revealed their knowledge and design proficiency zeroing in on redecorating with limited resources. The dialogue gave the viewer a sense of witnessing a live performance.

Design professionals disclosed that more money is spent by households on the essentials rather than on kitchen remodeling. Due to financial and time constraints, it is now the practice to make improvements in phases so the alterations are programmed over a certain period of time. A typical schedule would be: replace the countertops this year, install new cabinet hardware in six months and swap old with decorative tiles to lend more color to the kitchen in another six months. All the same, the desired effect and atmosphere is achieved with each improvement. A homeowner whose countertops were replaced prior to selling her home felt she had a new kitchen and started to question her earlier decision to move.

Kitchen Trends on a Budget

A summary of the kitchen design recommendations was produced from the video interviews undertaken during the expo. It was stressed that striking a balance between function and ornamentation is very critical. The secret is picking reasonably-priced products that are both agreeable to the sight and satisfy the needs of the household.

* Determine main concerns and go for simple yet stylish designs to save money

* Deliberate on continuing power needs as these encroach on cost over the life of the new kitchen.

* Decide on cheaper items like cabinets with an unfussy design, paint-instead of replacing-old wallpaper, cover an old countertop to give it new look

* Prefer timeless designs instead of trendy products. These will be still be up-to-the-minute even with changing fads.
