What a beautiful day! The sun is high in the bright blue sky. The flowers are blooming, the grass is greening, the animals are crittering, and the birds are chirping. The smell of spring is in the air. Spring has arrived... As has the spring beer delivery!
It is past noon and I'm parched. I have been out cutting wood, getting ready for the coming winter, but it is the spring flavor that I seek. Hops are on my mind and, with any good fortune, will soon be on my palate.
I like barley based drinks. Though I love my whiskeys, is undeniably my favorite. So what's up with ale this spring? All kinds of things truly, but all I am able to think about right now is which one I want to drink.
I'm fundamentally prepared to drink just about any ale at nearly any time. Though, my preferences do change with the weather. Right now... I'm into IPAs. IPAs are good all across the year. But the wet, green, warm days of spring tend to especially drive me toward the piney fresh scent and rich bitterness of a fine IPA. Fine IPAs aren't hard to find... Especially when you know where to look.
Sierra Nevada's Southern Hemisphere Harvest ale in the 24oz bottle is one to look for, and, if you are lucky, the Torpedo is often available. In the past, Sierra Torpedo has been seriously oversold by the brewery. Powerful promotional efforts, and a fresh hoppy taste, have left demand high and supply low. Naturally, I believe they should just send it all to Colonial Spirits of Acton and we could always enjoy it in spades, regardless of the season. Other classic favorites I enjoy frequently are Victory Hop Devil and Smuttynose IPA. Newer treats are Green Flash West Coast IPA and Lagunitas Hop Stoopid.
What are your faves? Let us know in comment section below. You can raise a question, comment on ale you like, tell me I am a fool... Or poor yourself a cold spring IPA and drink up.

Tim Bush found his way to Colonial Spirits, a Carlisle liquor store, in 2002. It was ale that brought Tim to Colonial Spirits and beer that allowed him to make a meaningful contribution to the store. Today, beer is only a tiny piece of what Tim does at the store. Nevertheless he enjoys beer now more and more. Tim's latest venture is Colonial Spirits Delivers, an online liquor store, which supplies wine, champagne, liquor, and beer delivery to Eastern Massachusetts.
