So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

New Bikes Branded As Classic

By Darnell Austria

More than a few motorcycle makers branded the name "classic" to various models. Their motorcycles may very well be classic with regards to the fundamental styling, but in actuality there is nothing classic on them in any way. All of them are pretenders depending on an identity to establish presence. Not as in the Heritage Softail Classic, a model released in 1986 that paid tribute to the old Hydra Glide of 1949.

Undoubtedly, the term Heritage befits the FLSTC, a Softail type that's always been in the market ever since the 1980's, and its heritage evolves with every passing day as the Heritage Softail Classic contributes to its long-standing heritage. Even a leading bike magazine during the time recognized the new Heritage Softail was actually a timeless type. The first outlines to the road evaluation explained: "Only Harley-Davidson could get away with this. The Heritage Classic says that nothing's really ever new, a concept of particular appeal to those companies counting their days since the dawn of motorcycling."

More recently, also in the course of the past 20 years to be even more precise, I've undertaken several travels on different Heritage Softails, and I have hardly ever been unhappy. Even if I like to travel lighter, there's sufficient space for extra baggage in those tough bags, plus the passenger backrest comes with a handy place to band further items like bedrolls and foul-weather gear. Harley's P & A division offers private luggage racks that conform to the backrest to help with most highway carrying cases. If you use up luggage space on a Heritage Softail, then you simply aren't adopting the rider's guidelines of packing up light, appropriate, and tight. Some others will explain that they must include worries in relation to sitting at the rear of a windshield once they ride. However, I've found a level of rewarding solitude after I situate my own self behind a silent spot, and the Heritage's clear bug catcher enables me to enjoy the scenery as the highway reveals itself.

But the real satisfaction is solely driving the Heritage from point A to point B. I'm able to extend my arms to the high-rise handlebar so that I stay relaxed as well as in control, and the footboards situate me almost like I'm relaxing in my favorite personal easy chair. After which there's the Heritage's chair, or in this case, the seat: somebody in Harley land ruined my favorite saddle, reshaping the passenger pad for 2011 to ensure that it gently jabs within my lower back.

For many years the Heritage Softail's rider/passenger seat combination was among the most relaxing within the Milwaukee selection, giving a gentle increase that made a little back rest in my position.

Whilst I have the post-it note pad out, Let me provide an additional brief memo with the Softail staff: don't mess with these staggered mufflers, they sound best the way they are! I'm not a follower of noisy mufflers, but it is also nice to hear more than a wheeze from stock mufflers. In the case of the Heritage, its vintage staggered duals produces a sound as a reminder why V-twin engines sound so agreeable, especially while accelerating from a stop.

The rest relating to the most current Heritage Softail Classic lives close to its past billing. The fuel-injected 96" engine serves its power to the 200 - series back wheel in sleek doses because of the tried-and-proven stability shafts functioning within the cases, and the six-speed cruise drive transmission snicks easily into each gear. The disc brakes stops the 730 - pound bike with no spectacle or incident, and the 5-gallon gas tank is definitely great for 200 miles in between stops.

Certainly the Heritage Softail Classic's classic design and amenities are not for all, but that is further reason why we've got chocolate and vanilla ice cream. If you do not enjoy one flavor, there's always the opposite to fulfill you. Me? I'll stick with the true Classic.
