So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Pottery West Point Offers Ongoing Classes For Aspiring Potters

By Melody Klein

If you have ever been inspired to make your own clay bowls, plates and ornaments then pottery West Point is available to help you make this a reality. If a lump of clay is tempting you to touch it and manipulate it then you may be ready to take classes to release the potter in you. When your fingers are itching to create then it is time to respond to the call of the artist within you.

Working with clay can be an extremely satisfying experience. A good teacher will recognize this desire in the student and will help them to learn how to co-ordinate their hands, eyes and feet at the wheel to create beautiful objects from clay. These objects can be utilitarian or simply decorative.

The aspiring artisan will learn how to make different shapes, sizes and glazes. They should feel free to experiment in order to ascertain what finishes and colors they feel most comfortable with. The artist will learn how to achieve harmony and balance while developing their signature style.

The student will discover if they have a need to express themselves more seriously or if they prefer a more humorous approach to their work. The apprentice potter will also begin to learn about their preference for size since these too carry their own set of challenges. The road to learning should not be rushed but rather explored with a desire to learn what best suits the personality of the creator.

The art of throwing pots on the wheel has been pursued for many centuries. It is inspiring to study the pieces made long ago when lifestyles were very different from what they are today. The pieces themselves will also carry their own unique stories by way of pictographs and text.

pottery west point is able to provide a satisfying opportunity for the aspiring artisans who are compelled to mold and manipulate clay. The end result of their work can be displayed in their homes, in exhibitions and even in their kitchens. The art of pottery satisfies the spirit as well as the sense of aesthetics.
