So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Simplify Your Life With These Cooking Tips

By Dorsey T. Emanus

Many people attempt to cook at some point in their lives, but often, they fail. Their failure may result in recipes not turning out correctly, or even kitchen disasters such as burning food. If this has happened to you, then the cooking tips found in this article should help you.

When you need to package cupcakes individually for bake sales, table decorations, or party favors place each cupcake in a clear plastic punch cup, then wrap the cup--from the bottom--with clear or colored cellophane. Use a twist tie, a piece of twine, or ribbon to secure the wrapping at the top.

Roast nuts briefly in the oven and then sprinkle some flour on them before using in a cake to prevent them from migrating to the bottom of the pan. Applying heat and coating lightly with flour keeps them in position in the cake batter and reduces the likelihood the nuts will settle before the cake is done baking.

Always choose to cook with a wine that you would drink yourself. If you don't even like the taste of the wine that you are cooking with, chances are that you will end up disliking whatever it is that you are making! So pick out a good wine that you know you love, and you will like your dish even more.

Cooking is all about preparation. To take the edge of cooking, whether it is a small appetizer, simple dish, full nine course meal, or elegant dessert, prepare for your cooking a day or two ahead. Plan what you are going to make and for how many people you are going to make it for. Gather your ingredients ahead of time to ensure that you won't have to rush.

Cook up the whole bag of potatoes at once! Slice them in half and put them in the freezer! Whether you boil or bake them, you'll always be ready to thaw out potatoes to use for a hastily put together potato bar dinner, to use as ingredients for potato salad or any other dishes that use cooked potatoes.

Frozen vegetables should only be used as a last resort in home cooking. Though they are cheap and usually available year-round, they fall far short of fresh vegetables in several important areas. Frozen vegetables have lost some of their healthy vitamins and nutrients. They often have unhealthy food additives. They also tend to taste worse than their fresh counterparts.

If you are going to be trying to get the jello salad out of the mold all you have to do is dip the mold in some warm water for 30 seconds. Loosen the edges of the mold with a knife and lightly flip it over onto a plate and voila!

Put salt on your cutting board. It can be difficult to cut herbs on your cutting board. They tend to go all over the place. To keep this from happening, just sprinkle a little salt on your cutting board before you begin. This will work to keep them from slipping around.

Try cooking stock ahead of time and freezing it. It is always handy to have chicken, beef, or vegetable stock handy when you are boiling vegetables or want to make a quick soup. It is also easier this way because it is less mess the day you are having your meal!

As stated before, many people attempt to cook, but they often fail. Whatever the reason is for their failure, it can result in some kitchen disasters. Using the cooking tips found in the article above, you can prevent kitchen disasters and improve your skills, making you a better cook in no time.
