So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

About Custom Quilts and Handmade Patchwork

By Chloe Gib

Your blanket patchwork can be seen as more than mere decoration for your home. Now you can start on making your own custom quilts to keep or to give away. Quilting can either be made into a hobby for you and your friends and family or your new form of business in these hard economic times.

Heirloom quilts were developed in the early colonial years mostly for warmth and practicality, quilting was a means of saving fabric efficiently because buying the premade material was considered expensive. Some women would collects scraps of fabric and combine them, creating a handmade quilt. Most other wives would add a little creativity in the designs, such as adding little bits of flare.

A comforter or blanket is composed of three layers. The first layer would be the top, which would be the design you choose to put down on your craft. The second layer consists of the wadding, which normally made of wool. The third layer being a woven back, all these three elements are sewn together.

Selecting the proper fabric and color of material should be an important concern. Seeing as some colors tend to bleed out and other textiles can shrink in the wash. You may or may not pre-wash your fabric or choose another one altogether or look up materials that can co exist naturally on your design.

The art of quilting was first created as a means of saving fabric and were also used to mark important life moments such as marriages and the birth of children. Some were not only used as bedding but also warm clothing for the winter months. Now modern designs are used as decoration, table cloths, wall hangings and also bedding for the whole family.

If you or a loved one suffer from allergic reactions because of some readymade comforters due to certain materials in them then making your own designs may be of help to you. If you use materials that are hypo allergenic, you can create a variety of handmade quilts. Not only you but also your family can benefit from your quilting as well. An added benefit is that by recycling these textiles you are saving form having to spend unnecessarily on store made items.

Studying the style of handmade quilts can help you feel attached to the technique of your loved one. You may feel drawn to create your own custom quilts after the same manner or choose to make something different. The possibilities are endless.
